(5:30 a.m.) Most roads are wet as a light snow and freezing rain fall throughout the area. However, temperatures are expected to fall below freezing this morning, creating slippery conditions.
If travel is necessary be prepared for a sudden change in conditions. Use extreme caution especially on bridges, overpasses and ramps.
VDOT crews are treating roads and closely monitoring conditions.
At this time, road conditions in the Fredericksburg area including I-95 are wet, with isolated spots of snow, ice, or slush. Some secondary roads in Spotsylvania and Caroline may be covered with a coating of wet snow. Commuter lots in the area have been treated.
Road conditions in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula areas are clear to minor with temperatures slightly above freezing.
Drivers are encouraged to closely monitor the weather forecast and check real-time road conditions on 511Virginia before starting a trip.
What Residents Should Know
Drivers should plan to stay off the roads if ice affects roads in the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck, or Middle Peninsula.
Motorists should not drive on icy roads, regardless of the vehicle.
If a resident’s driveway or sidewalk is too icy or slick for walking, road conditions are also likely to be hazardous in their area.
