Margaret Clevenger, account manager at Fredericksburg-based ScoutComms, was named a 2016 Rising PR Star by PR News.

Clevenger joined ScoutComms as the agency’s first account executive. Within a year, she was promoted to account manager, and now leads the junior staff.

“I’m incredibly honored to have been named a PR News 2016 Rising Star,” Clevenger said. “This award is not just a reflection of my personal achievements, it’s a reflection of my entire team. They have helped me become the public relations professional that I am today, and work with me each and every day to achieve our client goals. I’m very proud of the work we do at ScoutComms, and I’m thrilled that I’m able to support the veteran and military family community through my work.”

Clevenger grew up in a military family. “I was even born on base,” she said.

Her dad is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel. “Our family experienced several deployments, including two to Iraq, and we moved frequently, including spending my high school years stationed on multiple bases in Germany.” Her experience informs her work. Her clients include leading nonprofits like Blue Star Families and Student Veterans of America, and corporate leaders like GE and USAA.

“I am incredibly proud of what Margaret has brought not just to ScoutComms but to our larger community locally and nationally,” said ScoutComms CEO and Founder Fred Wellman. “She is a force of nature and unlimited talent, so the recognition from PR News is well deserved and almost understated. Her passion for our mission helping veterans and the organizations that support them is matched by her growing skills as a public relations professional. She is a big part of our continued growth and impact as a firm, and a real treasure for Fredericksburg and the larger veterans and military family communities we serve.”

Clevenger graduated from Syracuse University in May 2014, with a bachelor’s degree in public relations and policy studies.

ScoutComms, an award-winning Certified B Corp and a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business, is a communications, advocacy, philanthropic strategy, and market research firm dedicated to providing services that support veterans and military families. In 2016, the company surpassed $1 million in revenue for the first time, and doubled its employee base.
