Belmont – Ferry Farm Trail Access Completed at Gari Melchers Home and Studio

The final stage of the Belmont terminus of Stafford County’s Belmont – Ferry Farm Trail has been completed and opened to public use.

“The western end of the county-developed trail through Falmouth had ended at Ingleside Drive below Belmont, but the 19th century brick and stone stairway leading up to the Belmont House and Stafford County Visitor Center was in disrepair and unsafe for use,” Michelle Crow-Dolby, Gari Melchers Home & Studio at Belmont Education and Communications manager wrote in her February newsletter.

“Grants from the H. Stewart Jones Trust, The Duff McDuff Green, Jr. Fund of the Community Foundation, the Richard and Caroline T. Gwathmey Memorial Trust, and the Fredericksburg Savings Charitable Foundation helped fund the historically accurate restoration of the original stairs and a new roadside access entrance by local mason Richard Crickenberger,” Crow-Dolby said.

The two-mile, fully-paved pedestrian and bicycle trail passes through the Historic Port of Falmouth Park, St. Clair Brooks Park, and John Lee Pratt Park.
