Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR), Fredericksburg Clean and Green Commission, Virginia Outdoor Center, Common Ground Church, and River Rock Outfitter are hosting a day of community stewardship along the Rappahannock River and other outdoor spaces in the area from 1 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2017. Following are the details, as posted on Eventbrite by FOR.

Our new river cleanup program encourages groups of all kinds and sizes to work with FOR to organize a river cleanup in our community. This can be on a local stream, in a public park, or as a paddle cleanup down the Rapidan River or Rappahannock River.

We can supply all the equipment and trash bags, find a cleanup site, and even reserve dumpsters and trucks to remove collected trash and debris.

We are hosting a river cleanup this Spring at Old Mill Park, 2201 Caroline St. in Fredericksburg.

We ask that all participants pre-register for the event.

All participants must sign and complete a waiver and provide it at the event. All participants under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

If you are a group leader, please make sure all your participants have signed waivers prior to leaving for the event.

Event registration will begin at 1 p.m. at Old Mill Park. Cleanup activities will wrap up around 4 p.m.

We will assign age appropriate cleanup sites to all groups. If you have a particular site in mind, please include your site on the registration. Please be prepared to drive to and from your cleanup site. If you have a truck available, that would be great!

Just as we are removing waste from the environment, we like to limit the amount of waste our events generate, so we ask that you bring a reusable water bottle.

We are very fortunate to have ongoing support for our river cleanup program by our amazing sponsors.
