A Strong Finish for Firefighter Keyes
Firefighter Dennis Keyes, who will retire at the end of the month after 30 years of service to the city, on March 18 successfully completed the department’s physical agility test. The grueling trial was offered for prospective firefighter candidates as part of the screening regime.

There is no requirement for current staff to complete the test, but Firefighter Keyes chose to take the test, demonstrating his career-long adherence to the highest standards. Normally found operating the department’s aerial apparatus, this commitment is among the many reasons FF Keyes will be missed.

Coordinating Video Series with UMW
The University of Mary Washington will be unveiling “The New Guy,” a video series featuring UMW President Troy Paino, on April 7. The series features scenes of Paino exploring downtown Fredericksburg. Several different City departments including Parks and Recreation, and Economic Development and Tourism, were involved in the series. The video series will be unveiled at 4 p.m. April 7 at the Digital Auditorium inside the Hurley Convergence Center on UMW’s campus.

Children’s Art Show & Expo
The art exhibition was open Thursday, March 23 – Saturday, March 25 at the Dorothy Hart Community Center with free admission. This year’s show hosted 82 artists and more than 200 pieces of artwork. Special thanks to sponsor Cox Communications.

66th Annual Fredericksburg Fine Arts Show
The annual show will be held Friday, March 31 – Sunday, April 2 at the Dorothy Hart Community Center with free admission. There are 86 artists with over 200 paintings, drawings, photography, mixed media and more. On Friday, March 31, there will be a champagne reception from 6 – 8 p.m. with music by the Payne Family. The reception is free and open to the public. This event is sponsored by the Woman’s Club of Fredericksburg.
