Troy Paino arrived in Fredericksburg in July 2016, to take the reins as 10th president of the University of Mary Washington.

He’s “the new guy,” and he stars in a six-part video series to show what that’s like.

“‘The New Guy’ is a collection of short films that follow President Paino through uniquely Mary Washington adventures, as he gets to know the university and the city, along with their activities and amenities,” said Lisa Marvashti, Assistant Director of Media and Public Relations at UMW. The episodes feature students, notable alumni, and local celebrities.

The series will premiere at a red-carpet event at 4 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2017, at UMW’s Hurley Convergence Center Digital Auditorium. “The New Guy” début will include a guest panel of people involved with the film, refreshments, and more.

“The camera loves Paino, who grabbed attention in T-Pain Misses You, a humorous film about a lonesome university president on a student-less campus during holiday break,” Marvashti said. “The 2013 YouTube sensation, filmed when Paino was president of Missouri’s Truman State University, garnered more than 100,000 views, and earned him inclusion as one of “America’s coolest college presidents.”

“The New Guy” video series will be available on YouTube, following the premiere.

Paino will be inaugurated on April 21, 2017.

The University of Mary Washington has a total enrollment of more than 5,000, and features colleges of business, education, and arts and sciences. UMW has three campuses, including a residential campus in Fredericksburg, Virginia, a second one in nearby Stafford, and a third in Dahlgren. The Dahlgren campus serves as a center of development of educational and research partnerships between the Navy, higher education institutions, and the region’s employers.
