FREDERICKSBURG – Beginning next week the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will implement a new traffic pattern on Cool Springs Road approaching the Route 3 (Kings Highway) intersection in Stafford County.
Currently, motorists planning to turn left from Cool Springs Road southbound onto Route 3 eastbound must use the left lane to access the double left turn lanes at the intersection.
The new pavement markings will allow drivers to access the left turn lanes from both lanes on Cool Springs Road.
There will be no change to the existing far right lane movement. Motorists will continue to use the far right lane on Cool Springs Road to go straight toward Jett Drive or merge onto Route 3 westbound toward Chatham Bridge.
This change will enhance safety at the intersection by creating a safer turning environment, shorten traffic back-ups at the intersection approach and provide a more balanced lane use of Cool Springs Road. The change will also result in more efficient signal operations at the intersection.
Crews are expected to begin re-striping in this area during the week of May 1. Motorists should expect brief delays on Cool Springs Road near the intersection during the daylight hours.
