Route 622 in Spotsylvania reopens after bridge replacement

by | May 4, 2017 | Traffic

FREDERICKSBURG – Route 622 (Fairview Road) in Spotsylvania County has reopened to traffic at the bridge over Northeast Creek and the 17-mile detour has been lifted.

Crews replaced the existing bridge’s steel beams, deck with new timber and steel. They also made repairs to the vertical walls and foundation. Crews will return at a later date to install new guardrail and final paving.

Fairview Road just west of Route 601 (Wallers Road) was closed to through traffic since late March.

The bridge over Northeast Creek is located between Wallers Road and Lewistown Road in the Partlow area.

Built in 1964, the bridge had a posted weight restriction of 20 tons for single-axle vehicles and 26 tons for tractor trailers. With these improvements to the bridge, all weight posting signs have been removed.

Fairview Road carries an average of 1,400 vehicles a day, according to a 2016 VDOT traffic count.
