A new tabletop gaming store is coming to Spotsylvania.

Your Hobby Place, which already has a store in Martinsburg, WV, is coming to 4264 Plank Road, next to the old Ukrops building.

“We focus mainly on table top games. Board games, miniature games, card, and roleplaying games. We also hit some traditional hobbies such as model building, rockets, and trains,” said Matt Fisher, who will be operating the store.

“We will be hosting games and events most days of the week,” Fisher said. “We will be holding tournaments for games like Magic: the Gathering and more as well as open play nights and other organized play events.”

Fisher said that tabletop gaming gives people a chance to meet and spend time together. “It’s a great way for people to meet others with similar interests and to have face to face time with others. We’ve had several young people meet the guys they play online with in our store.”

Fisher said the most popular games at their Martinsburg store are the big names: Magic: the Gathering, Warhammer 40,000, and Dungeons and Dragons.

“People know these games and new players usually seek them out.,” Fisher said. “There’s been a bit more interest in historical games lately, though.”

“I’ve been doing table top gaming since I was a young boy,” Fisher said. “It was one of the benefits to having a father who liked these games. It got me into history, which eventually led to me getting a history degree. I’ve only been helping running the store for about a year as I was in China for most of my post college life.”

Fisher will have some experienced local help in the store from the recently-closed Game Vault store.

“Jayson Fernandez is a talented Magic the Gathering player and has been in the game for over twenty years,” Fisher said. “Tony Brors is primarily a Warhammer 40k player who used to work for the Games Workshop company.”

Fisher and a crew of volunteers have started painting the store space and getting ready for a June opening.
