Interstate 95 Litter Pickup & Mowing

 (New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Crews will be picking up litter and mowing along Interstate 95 from Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 104 (Carmel Church). All lanes will remain open. This is a district-wide initiative to have litter pickups and mow grass in Stafford, Spotsylvania and Caroline counties prior to the Fourth of July holiday. Be alert to crews and equipment.

 

Stafford County

 

Interstate 95 Southbound

(Update) Sunday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m.  Two lanes on I-95 southbound will be closed from just before Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) to the Rappahannock River Bridge for pavement repair. All lanes will be open to traffic by4:30 a.m. each day. Motorists should expect overnight delays.

(New) Monday, 10 a.m. – 5 a.m.  The entrance ramp to I-95 southbound from Centreport Parkway will be closed for pavement repair.

(New) Monday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m. A single, left lane on I-95 southbound will be blocked near Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville) to allow crews to adjust concrete barriers near the Express Lanes southern extension project.

(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Crews will be inspecting signs along I-95 southbound from Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth). Motorists should anticipate alternating lane closures for this mobile work zone. Expect brief delays.

(New) Wednesday, 9:30 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. A single right lane will be blocked on I-95 southbound near Exit 148 (Quantico) to allow crews to take soil samples.

 

Interstate 95 Northbound

(Update) Monday ˗˗ Wednesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. and Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Crews will be installing overhead signs for the southern extension of the Express Lanes south of Exit 143 (Route 610). On Monday through Wednesday, a single lane on I-95 northbound will be closed at 9 p.m. between Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) and Exit 143 (Garrisonville) then double lane closure at 10 p.m. On Thursday and Friday, a single lane will close at 10 p.m then double lane closure at midnight. On Wednesday, there will also be full traffic stops on I-95 northbound up to 20 minutes at a time between midnight and 3 a.m. All lanes will reopen at4:30 a.m. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. Drivers should expect overnight delays and may consider Route 1 as an alternate route.

 (New) Tuesday ˗˗ Wednesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. A single, left lane will be blocked on I-95 northbound near Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) to allow crews to take soil samples.

 

Route 1

(New) Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ Midnight. Crews will be working on a street light pole from the ramp of Route 1 northbound to Route 3 westbound. Expect alternating lane closures and brief delays.

 

Route 17 Northbound Collector Road

(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 17 northbound collector road which is adjacent to I-95 northbound. Crews will be inspecting overhead signs on the collector road. Be alert to crew and equipment, expect brief delays.

 

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)

Monday ˗˗ Saturday, 8 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Motorists can expect alternating single lane closures overnight on Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) from Shenandoah Lane to Travis Lane as crews install a new drainage system. This work is connected to the Stafford County widening of Garrisonville Road.

 

Routine Maintenance

Interstate 95 Southbound

The Ni River Bridge is located at mile marker 121, just south of Exit 126/Massaponax. A single lane will be closed at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will be open to traffic by 4:30 a.m. each day. Motorists should expect overnight delays.

 

Interstate 95 Northbound

(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Two lanes on I-95 northbound at the Ni River Bridge will be closed to allow crews to continue the bridge improvement project. The Ni River Bridge is located at mile marker 121, just north of Exit 118/Thornburg. A single lane will be closed at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at10 p.m. All lanes will be open to traffic by 4:30 a.m. each day. Motorists should expect overnight delays.

 

Route 1 and Harrison Road

(New) Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 8 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. There will be single, alternating lane closures on  Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) near the Harrison Road intersection for paving. Expect brief delays near the intersection.

 

Route 620 (Harrison Road)

(New) 4 a.m. Saturday, June 24 ˗˗ 5 a.m. Monday, June 26.  A small section of Route 620 (Harrison Road) will be closed between Route 1 and Lafayette Boulevard for paving. Posted message boards will direct motorists to use Route 1324 (Lassen Lane) as the recommended detour route. This work is part of the project to build new turn lanes and improve the Route 1 and Harrison Road intersection. Sunday

 

Route 1 and Hickory Ridge Road

Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m.  A single right lane on southbound Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) will be blocked near Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road). Expect brief delays. This work is part of the intersection improvement project.

 

Route 608 (Massaponax Church Road)

(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Friday Spotsylvania County will begin construction to improve Massaponax Church Road near Route 17 (Mills Drive), as a county capital project. Crews will improve the roadway alignment by removing two sharp, blind curves and adding shoulders. Drainage improvements will also be made. A section of Massaponax Church Road will be closed for approximately six weeks beginning July 6. A detour route will be set up along Massaponax Church Road, Route 1 and Route 17.  Message boards have been posted.

 

Routine Maintenance

MondayFriday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

 

  • Route 208 (Courthouse Road) ˗˗ brush removal

City of Fredericksburg

 

Route 3

Crews will continue to set up temporary fencing, orange barrels and other equipment as construction will soon begin to improve safety on Route 3 (Plank Road) at the I-95 interchange. All lanes will remain open on Route 3 and I-95. Motorists are asked to be alert to crews and construction equipment at the interchange.

 

Fall Hill Avenue

(New) Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ noon. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Fall Hill Avenue both eastbound and westbound at Wicklow Drive. Crews will be raising traffic signal poles at the intersection. There may be brief, total traffic stops on Fall Hill Avenue to remove and reset the traffic signal poles.  Fredericksburg Police will assist with traffic control at the intersection. Expect brief delays.

 

Caroline County

 

Route 1 near Durette Road

(Update) Monday ˗˗ Wednesday, 6 a.m. ˗˗ 2:30 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures and brief delays on northbound and southbound Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) near the Durrette Road intersection for a paving operation.

 

Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard)

Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Motorists should be alert to a mobile work zone on Rogers Clark Boulevard at the on- and off-ramps at I-95 for sign installation. Expect alternating lane closures and brief delays.

 

Town of Bowling Green Sidewalk Project

(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 6 p.m. A concrete sidewalk repair project will be underway on Main Street in the Town of Bowling Green this summer, starting June 19 through August 21. Pedestrians can expect to see work on both sides of Main Street between East Broaddus Avenue and Milford Street. They will always have access to a sidewalk along one side of Main Street.

(New) Thursday, 6:30 a.m. ˗˗6 p.m. Traffic will be down to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound at the James Madison Bridge over the Rappahannock River for work related to the bridge rehabilitation project. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.

 

Gloucester County

 

Route 17

(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures and brief delays on southbound Route 17 (George Washington Memorial Highway) between Ark Road and Old Pinetta Road for a paving operation.

 

King George County

 

Route 625 (Salem Church Road)

Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 5:30 p.m. Motorists can expect one-way traffic controlled by flaggers on a portion of Route 625 (Salem Church Road), east of Route 650 (Welcome Lane). Crews are working to realign, widen and improve drainage along Salem Church Road.

 

King William County

 

Route 30 near Garlick Road

(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures and brief delays on Route 30 between Garlick Road and Black Gum Road for a paving operation.

 

Route 30 near 15th Street

(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗  3:30 p.m.  Motorists should be alert for a mobile work zone with crews and construction equipment on Route 30 (King William Road) near 15th Street and Euclid Boulevard. Crews will make repairs to the handicapped accessible sidewalk ramps and pedestrian crossings. There may be temporary, intermittent lane closures with this work.

 

Route 360

(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 4 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Motorists should expect alternating lane closures and brief delays on Route 360 (Richmond Tappahannock Highway) at the bridge over the Moncuin Creek for bridge repairs.

 

Lancaster County/Middlesex County

 

Robert. O. Norris Bridge

Temporary traffic signals are in full operation mode at the center spans of the Norris Bridge on Route 3 between Lancaster and Middlesex counties. Two temporary traffic signals control one-way, alternating traffic at the bridge’s center spans 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Crews are using the closed lane to paint the center spans of the bridge over the Rappahannock River. The signals will remain in place until the end of the painting project in June 2018.

 

Lancaster County

 

Route 3

(New) Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Crews will be installing guardrail on eastbound Route 3 near Winters Lane. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

 

Route 200

Tuesday ˗˗Friday, 7:30 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 200 (Jessie Dupont Memorial Highway) near Route 607 (Goodluck Road). Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect brief delays for this utility and permit work for Dominion Energy.

 

Northumberland County

 

Secondary Route Paving

Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures or alternating traffic with flagging operations or a pilot vehicle on various low volume secondary routes throughout Northumberland County, as crews begin paving and a surface treatment project.

 

Highway Improvement Projects

 

City of Fredericksburg

 

Route 1 Bridge Rehabilitation Project at Hazel Run

Work to improve the Route 1 bridge over Hazel Run in the city of Fredericksburg is underway. The bridge is located on Route 1 between Idlewood Boulevard and Kings Mill Drive. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment and crews working along the shoulder until early spring. All travel lanes will be open in the work zone. The bridge rehabilitation project is expected to be complete in May 2017.

 

Stafford County

 

I-95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus Extension

Construction is underway to extend 95 Express Lanes in Stafford County. The approximate 2.5 mile extensionwill carry traffic beyond the flyover ramp where 95 Express Lanes currently end, just north of Exit 143/Route 610 (Garrisonville Road). The new southbound exit ramp is scheduled to open by early 2018, and the northbound entrance ramp will open in summer 2018.

 

I-95/Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Widening and Interchange Relocation

Preliminary geotechnical work is underway on a project to improve the I-95 interchange at Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road). The project includes building a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140, relocating the Courthouse Rd. and Rt. 1 intersection to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard, widen Courthouse Rd. to four lanes, and add a traffic signal at the entrance to Colonial Forge High School. Construction to widen Courthouse Road will begin in summer 2017, and the entire project is expected to be complete by summer 2020.

 

Route 610 Widening Project

Stafford County is widening Route 610 from four to six lanes between Onville Road and Eustace Road. Utility relocation is underway.

 

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) Interstate 95 Overpass Replacement and Road Improvements

The project to build a new I-95 overpass on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road), provide improvements to interstate ramps, Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95 and Mallard Road is underway. Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment on I-95 between mile marker 119 and Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg), Mudd Tavern Road, and Mallard Road. Construction for the $22.4 million project is expected to be complete by September 2019.

Route 1 and Route 620 (Harrison Road)

Construction to build additional turn lanes and extend existing turn lanes is underway at the intersection of Route 1 and Harrison Road. Motorists should be alert for construction crews and equipment. Project completion is May 2018.

 

Route 1 and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road)

Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road) to improve traffic flow by adding and extending turn lanes. Motorists should be alert to crews working along the shoulders at the intersection. Project completion is July 11, 2017.

 

Caroline County

 

Route 17 and Route 301 Intersection

Crews are upgrading the existing signal equipment at the intersection of Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) and Route 301 (A.P. Hill Boulevard).  The modernized signal equipment will be fastened to mast arms from signal poles and will be aligned properly with the travel lanes. Most construction work will occur outside of travel lanes until spring 2017. The project is expected to be complete in fall 2017.

 

Route 662 (Gregory Road) Bridge Replacement

Crews will begin replacing the structurally deficient bridge over Reedy Creek on Gregory Road. A detour will be in place for approximately six weeks while construction is underway. Crews will replace the existing steel beams, deck and guardrail with a 40-foot long concrete slab bridge on new concrete abutments. The length of the two-lane bridge will almost be doubled following this project. New bridge delineators will also be installed. Bridge delineators are small traffic signs to provide night reflection and help guide traffic along the new bridge. Following final inspection of the bridge, the current weight limit posting is expected to be removed.

 

Caroline County/King George County

 

Route 301 at Rappahannock River

Bridge rehabilitation is underway on the James Madison Memorial Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Maintenance will occur below the bridge deck and includes repairing concrete, replacing bearings, shoring up rip-rap on the slope, and replacing navigation lights. All lanes are currently open on the bridge, but single lane closures will be in place periodically. Project completion is October 2017.

 

 

Gloucester County

 

Route 662 (Allmondsville Road) Bridge Replacement

Crews are replacing a structurally deficient bridge on Allmondsville Road over Fox Creek. The road is closed to through traffic at the bridge during construction. Motorists should follow the posted signs along the detour route. The project will be completed in April 2018.

 

 

Northumberland County

 

Route 360 (Northumberland Highway)

Construction is underway to extend the existing left turn lane and construct an additional left turn lane on Route 360 (Northumberland Highway) at Academic Lane.  Motorists can expect periodic lane closures on Route 360 throughout the day, Monday through Friday.  The Route 360 and Academic Lane intersection is located near the Northumberland County high school, middle school and elementary school campus.  The project will enhance safety at the intersection that serves the campus and improve roadway drainage in the area.  Work is expected to be complete in October 2017.
