Motorists can anticipate overnight lane closures and travel delays on Route 3 between Gordon Road and Spotswood Furnace Lane in Spotsylvania County for a paving operation beginning Sunday, August 6.

Crews will begin paving on westbound Route 3 near Gordon Road to Spotswood Furnace Lane. Once they finish work on westbound Route 3, crews will then move to eastbound Route 3.

Drivers will encounter single lane closures between 7:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly on Sunday through Thursday beginning Sunday, August 6 for approximately three weeks.

Next week, crews will begin by milling the existing pavement. Motorists may encounter a slightly rougher travel surface on a temporary basis until new asphalt is applied.

Route 3 carries approximately 53,000 vehicles a day, on average.
