Exit 140 (Courthouse Road)
(New) Monday, 2 a.m. –10 a.m. The left lane on I-95 southbound will be blocked near the Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) interchange for a milling, paving operation as part of the project to reconfigure the interchange to a diverging diamond. Expect brief delays.

(New) Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Expect double lane closures and overnight delays on I-95 southbound at Exit 140 for construction activities. A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will open by 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

(New) Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. A single left lane on I-95 southbound will be blocked to install concrete barrier as part of the Exit 140 interchange project. All lanes will be open by 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

Potomac Creek Bridge (mile marker 137)
(New) Tuesday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. Expect double lane closures and overnight delays on I-95 southbound at the Potomac Creek Bridge, which is located at mile marker 137, just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway). Crews will begin a bridge improvement project. A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. each morning. A single lane will remain close at the bridge till 10 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

(New) Thursday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect double lane closures and overnight delays on I-95 northbound at the Potomac Creek Bridge, which is located at mile marker 137, just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway). Crews will begin a bridge improvement project. A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain close at the bridge till 6 a.m. Friday.

Truslow Road Bridge (mile marker 134)
(New) Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. Expect a single lane to be closed on I-95 southbound at the Truslow Road bridge for repairs at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. The Truslow Road bridge is located at mile marker 134, south of Exit 136/Centreport Parkway. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain close till 10 a.m. Wednesday.

(New) Wednesday 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. for repairs to the Truslow Road bridge. Double lane closures end at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. Thursday.

Exit 133 (Falmouth)
(New) Monday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Expect double lane closures and overnight delays near Exit 133 as crews repair the bridge over Route 17. A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain close till 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg)
(New) Thursday, 9 p.m . ˗˗ 6 a.m. and Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m The Exit 130 off-ramp will be reduced to a single lane from I-95 southbound to westbound Route 3 at Carl D. Silver Parkway for storm sewer installation, as part of the I-95 interchange safety improvement project. All lanes will reopen on Friday at 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Saturday.

Ni River Bridge (mile marker 121)
(New) Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m. and Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m Expect double lane closures and overnight delays at the Ni River bridge as crews continue a bridge improvement project. The Ni River bridge is located at mile marker 121, just south of Exit 126/Massaponax. On Monday through Thursday, a single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. On Friday, a single lane will close at 10 p.m. and double lane closure at midnight till 4:30 a.m. A single lane will close until 6 a.m. Saturday.

Interstate 95 Northbound

Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville Road)
(New) Tuesday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. A single, left lane on I-95 northbound will be closed near Exit 143 to allow crews to work on overhead signage as part of the Southern Terminus extension of the Express Lanes.

Exit 140 (Courthouse Road)

Truslow Road Bridge (mile marker 134)
(New) Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Expect a single lane closure at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. on I-95 northbound at the Truslow Road bridge for repairs. The Truslow Road bridge is located at mile marker 134, north of Exit 133/Route 17. All lanes will reopen to traffic by 4:30 a.m Friday.

Ni River Bridge (mile marker 121)
Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. and Friday, 9 p.m .˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Two lanes on I-95 northbound at the Ni River bridge will be closed to allow crews to continue a bridge improvement project. The Ni River bridge is located at mile marker 121, just north of Exit 118/Thornburg. A single lane will be closed at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes open to traffic by 4:30 a.m. each day. On Friday, a single lane will close at 10 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at midnight till 4:30 a.m.

Route 3 (Kings Highway)

(New) Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect a single lane on eastbound Route 3 to be blocked near the Ferry Road intersection to the Blue and Gray Parkway interchange for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 17 Northbound and Southbound

(Update) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 17 northbound and southbound at Cardinal Forest Drive and Village Parkway for traffic engineering work. Expect brief delays.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)

(New) Sunday ˗˗ Saturday, 8 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Motorists can expect alternating single lane closures overnight on Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) from Shenandoah Lane to Travis Lane for a milling and paving operation. This work is connected to the Stafford County widening of Garrisonville Road.

Route 630 (Courthouse Road)

(New) Wednesday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Crews will be restriping existing line markings on Courthouse Road from Woodcutters Road to Colonial Forge High School. Expect alternating, one-way traffic. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect brief, overnight delays.

Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 12 p.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. , and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road between Austin Ridge Drive and Ramoth Church Road for clearing, tree trimming, grading and pipe work. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect delays.

City of Fredericksburg

Route 3 Westbound

(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m. A single lane will close at 10 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at midnight on westbound Route 3 near the I-95 interchange for construction activities, as part of the I-95 interchange safety improvement project. Expect overnight delays at the Exit 130 interchange. All lanes will reopen by 7 a.m. Thursday.

Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park Exit)

(New) Sunday ˗˗ Tuesday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m. All southbound lanes on Carl D. Silver Parkway at Route 3 (Plank Road) will be blocked to allow crews to relocate water and sewer lines. Traffic will not be permitted to exit at the main entrance to the Central Park shopping area. Signs will be posted along the detour route to Trade Street and Central Park Boulevard.

Spotsylvania County

Route 1 at Harrison Road

Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 8 p.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 1 northbound and southbound at Harrison Road as crews for milling and paving, as construction for the improved and widen intersection nears completion. Motorists may experience a rough travel surface and bumps. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. Expect brief, overnight delays at the intersection.

Route 17 Southbound

(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m .˗˗ 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on southbound Route 17 (Mills Drive) near Benchmark Road for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct drivers through the intersection and work zone. Expect brief delays.

Spotsylvania County Restriping

(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures or alternating traffic with flagging operations on low-volume, various secondary routes. Crews are restriping existing line markings on various roads. Motorists should expect slow moving construction equipment and delays near the mobile work zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be wet and may adhere to vehicle. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear.

Subdivision Street Paving

(New) Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m .˗˗ 5 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures or alternating traffic with flagging operations in several neighborhoods in the Lee’s Hill area off Mine Road for a paving operation. Crews will begin by working to repair pavement in Watford Village, Cavalry Ridge and Lee’s Crossing subdivisions. This project will improve the ride for motorists and enhance the condition of the streets with new asphalt after pavement repairs are made. Expect brief delays.

Route 301 (James Madison Parkway) near Commerce Drive (Gate B at Dahlgren)

Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m. A single right lane on northbound Route 301 (James Madison Parkway) will be blocked near Commerce Drive and Potomac Drive with construction underway to extend the existing right lane from northbound Route 301 to the Gate B entrance to Naval Support Activity South Potomac at Dahlgren.

King William County

Secondary Route Paving

Lancaster County/Middlesex County

Route 3 and Robert O. Norris Bridge

(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Saturday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m. Drivers on Route 3 crossing the Norris Bridge should expect brief daytime delays as crews make structural steel repairs. Drivers will encounter one-way, alternating traffic on the bridge controlled by automatic flagging stations. The temporary traffic signals on the bridge will be placed in flash mode during the work zone.

Mathews County

Northumberland County

Route 360 at Academic Lane

Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m. Motorists can expect alternating, single lane closures and flagging operations at the intersection of Route 360 (Northumberland Highway) and Academic Lane as work continues to improve and widen the intersection.

Richmond County

Route 3 Eastbound

(New) Monday − Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on eastbound Route 3 near Woodyard Road and Fallin Town Road for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Westmoreland County

Route 3 (Kings Highway)

(New) Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m. Expect a single left lane on Route 3 eastbound to be blocked near McKinney Boulevard in Colonial Beach to allow crews to replace utility poles. Expect brief delays.

Highway Improvement Projects

City of Fredericksburg

Interstate 95 at Route 3 (Exit 130)

Construction is underway to improve safety on Interstate 95 and Route 3 at the Exit 130 interchange in the city of Fredericksburg. The project will modify the interchange ramps and lower crash risk by eliminating conflict points where vehicles currently merge and weave. Motorists should be prepared for lane closures, construction activity, and temporary traffic shifts on Route 3 and I-95 at Exit 130. Project completion is January 2019.

Stafford County

I-95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus Extension

Construction is underway to extend 95 Express Lanes in Stafford County. The approximate 2.5 mile extension will carry traffic beyond the flyover ramp where 95 Express Lanes currently end, just north of Exit 143/Route 610 (Garrisonville Road). The new southbound exit ramp is scheduled to open by early 2018, and the northbound entrance ramp will open in summer 2018.

I-95/Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Widening and Interchange Relocation

Preliminary geotechnical work is underway on a project to improve the I-95 interchange at Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road). The project includes building a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140, relocating the Courthouse Road and Route 1 intersection to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard, widening Courthouse Road to four lanes, and adding a traffic signal at the entrance to Colonial Forge High School. Construction to widen Courthouse Road began in summer 2017, and the entire project is expected to be complete by summer 2020.

Route 610 Widening Project

Stafford County is widening Route 610 from four to six lanes between Onville Road and Eustace Road. Utility relocation is underway.

Spotsylvania County

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) Interstate 95 Overpass Replacement and Road Improvements East of I-95

The project to build a new I-95 overpass on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road), provide improvements to interstate ramps, Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95 and Mallard Road is underway. Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment on I-95 between mile marker 119 and Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg), Mudd Tavern Road, and Mallard Road. Construction for the $22.4 million project is expected to be complete by September 2019.

Route 1 and Route 620 (Harrison Road)

Construction to build additional turn lanes and extend existing turn lanes is underway at the intersection of Route 1 and Harrison Road. Motorists should be alert for construction crews and equipment. Work continues behind orange barrels and concrete barriers during the weekdays. Project completion is May 2018.

Route 608 (Massaponax Church Road)

A section of Massaponax Church Road remains closed. Message boards are posted along the detour route on Massaponax Church Road, Route 1 and Route 17. A Spotsylvania County project is underway to improve Massaponax Church Road near Route 17 (Mills Drive). Crews are working to improve the roadway alignment by removing two sharp, blind curves and adding shoulders, and improving roadway drainage.

Caroline County

Route 17 and Route 301 Intersection

Crews are upgrading the existing signal equipment at the intersection of Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) and Route 301 (A.P. Hill Boulevard). The modernized signal equipment will be fastened to mast arms from signal poles and will be aligned properly with the travel lanes. Most construction work will occur outside of travel lanes until spring 2017. The project is expected to be complete in fall 2017.

Caroline County/King George County

Route 301 at Rappahannock River

Bridge rehabilitation is underway on the James Madison Memorial Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Maintenance will occur below the bridge deck and includes repairing concrete, replacing bearings, shoring up rip-rap on the slope, and replacing navigation lights. All lanes are currently open on the bridge, but single lane closures will be in place periodically. Project completion is October 2017.

Gloucester County

Route 662 (Allmondsville Road) Bridge Replacement

Crews are replacing a structurally deficient bridge on Allmondsville Road over Fox Creek. The road is closed to through traffic at the bridge during construction. Motorists should follow the posted signs along the detour route. The project will be completed in April 2018.

King and Queen County

Route 611 (Tastine Road)

Tastine Road will be closed to through traffic while crews replace the existing underground culverts. Crews will replace three culverts located under Tastine Road at Tastine Swamp. The existing corrugated metal pipes will be upgraded to reinforced concrete pipes. Motorists should use the most convenient alternate route while work is underway. Work is expected to be complete in late September.

Lancaster County/Middlesex County

Robert. O. Norris Bridge

Temporary traffic signals are installed at the center spans of the Norris Bridge on Route 3 between Lancaster and Middlesex counties. Two temporary signals control one-way, alternating traffic at the bridge’s center spans 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Crews are using the closed lane to paint the center spans of the bridge over the Rappahannock River. The signals will remain in place until the end of the painting project in June 2018.

Northumberland County

Route 360 (Northumberland Highway)

Construction is underway to extend the existing left turn lane and construct an additional left turn lane on Route 360 (Northumberland Highway) at Academic Lane. Motorists can expect periodic lane closures on Route 360 on Mondays through Fridays. The intersection is located near the Northumberland County high school, middle school and elementary school campus. The project will enhance safety at the intersection that serves the school campus and will improve roadway drainage in the area. Project completion is October 2017.
