Interstate 95 Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Work is underway to improve the deck and substructure on several bridges located on I-95 in Stafford and Spotsylvania.

Stafford County: I-95 Bridge over Potomac Creek at mile marker 137
The I-95 bridges over Potomac Creek are located just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) at mile marker 137.

· I-95 Northbound: Monday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
9 p.m. – one lane closed
10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed
All lanes re-open at 4:30 a.m. Thursday

· I-95 Southbound: Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
9 p.m. – one lane closed
10 p.m. – 6 a.m. – two lanes closed
All lanes re-open at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday

Spotsylvania County: I-95 Bridge over Ni River at mile marker 121
The I-95 bridges over the Ni River are located just south of Exit 126/Massaponax at mile marker 121.
I-95 Southbound: Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.
9 p.m. – one lane closed
10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed
All lanes re-open by 4:30 a.m. the following morning.

I-95 Northbound: Monday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. and Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.
9 p.m. – one lane closed
10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed
All lanes re-open by 4:30 a.m. Tuesday and Friday

Interstate 95 Exit 130/Route 3/Fredericksburg Interchange Improvement Project

Construction is underway to improve safety on Interstate 95 and Route 3 at the Exit 130 interchange in Fredericksburg. Motorists should be prepared for the following lane closures, construction activity, and temporary traffic shifts on Route 3, I-95 at Exit 130 and/or Central Park shopping area.

I-95 Northbound at Route 3 Westbound FULL RAMP CLOSURE
(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Friday, 12 a.m. ˗˗ 3 a.m. The ramp carrying traffic from westbound Route 3 to I-95 northbound will be closed to allow crews to work safely. Westbound traffic will be detoured to make a U-turn at Carl D. Silver Parkway to eastbound Route 3 and directed to I-95 northbound using the other ramp. The ramp will reopen at 3 a.m. each morning and the detour will be lifted.

Interstate 95 Southbound
(New) Monday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m. Expect a single, right lane to be closed on I-95 southbound near the Exit 130 interchange to allow crews to install borings for future pole foundations. Expect brief delays.

Interstate 95 Northbound
(New) Monday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Expect a single, right lane to be closed on I-95 northbound near the Exit 130 interchange to allow crews to install borings for future pole foundations. Expect brief delays.
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m. Expect a single, right lane to be closed on I-95 northbound near the Exit 130 interchange for construction activities. Expect brief daytime delays near the interchange.

Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park Exit CLOSURE)
(Update) Sunday ˗˗ Tuesday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m. All southbound lanes on Carl D. Silver Parkway at Route 3 will be blocked for water line and storm sewer work. Traffic will not be permitted to exit the Central Park shopping area. Signs will guide traffic along the detour route from Trade Street to Central Park Boulevard.

Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park Entrance CLOSURE)
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m All northbound lanes on Carl D. Silver Parkway at Route 3 will be blocked for water line and storm sewer work. Traffic will not be permitted to enter the Central Park shopping area. Signs will guide traffic along the detour route to Central Park Boulevard.

Route 3 Westbound
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Wednesday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 9 a.m. A single, right lane will be closed on Route 3 westbound near the interchange.

Route 3 Eastbound
(Update) Sunday ˗˗ Wednesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4 a.m. A single, right lane will be closed on Route 3 eastbound near the interchange.

Interstate 95 at Exit 118/Mudd Tavern Road Widening and Bridge Replacement Project

Crews are working to improve the interchange on Interstate 95 at Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road). The project will build a new I-95 overpass and improve on and off-ramps on Mudd Tavern Road, improve Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95, and Mallard Road.

Interstate 95 Northbound at Exit 118
(Update) Wednesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. A single, left lane will be closed at the interchange for construction activities. Expect brief delays.

Stafford County Work Zones

Route 218 (Butler Road)
(Update) Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Butler Road between Chatham Heights Road and Cool Springs Road to allow crews to make repairs to the bridge over CSX railroad tracks. Expect brief delays.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) at Shenandoah Lane
(New) Saturday ˗˗ Sunday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Motorists can expect alternating single lane closures overnight on Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) from Shenandoah Lane to Travis Lane for a milling and paving operation. This work is connected to the Stafford County widening of Garrisonville Road.

Route 630 (Courthouse Road)
(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road between Route 1 and Red Oak Drive for a Stafford County milling and paving operation. Motorists may experience a rough travel surface or bumps in the area. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect brief delays.
Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m., and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane and Monument Drive for clearing/trimming trees, installing concrete barrier and pipe work as part of the widening project.

City of Fredericksburg Work Zones

Fall Hill Avenue
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 12 p.m. Expect a single lane closure on Fall Hill Avenue near Heritage Park Drive. Expect brief delays.

Spotsylvania County Work Zones

Interstate 95 Southbound at Exit 118
(New) Sunday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. A single lane on I-95 southbound at Exit 118 (Thornburg) will close followed by a double lane closure at 11 p.m. for bridge maintenance work. All lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. Expect overnight delays.

Route 1 Restriping
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗ 5 p.m. Motorists should anticipate alternating, single lane closures on Route 1 near Mudd Tavern Road for traffic engineering work. Expect brief delays.

Route 17
Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on southbound Route 17 (Mills Drive) near Jim Morris Road intersection, Robert E. Lee Drive, Massaponax Church Road and Jennings Lane for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct drivers through the intersection and work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 649 (Seays Road) CLOSED
Seays Road is closed to through traffic to replace a structurally deficient bridge over Glady Run. The bridge is located between Robert E. Lee Drive and Mastin Lane. A detour will be in place along the recommended detour route, which is approximately ten miles. The bridge is anticipated to be closed until mid-November 2017.

Route 656 (Towles Mill Road)
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Towles Mill Road near Black Rock Drive for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Caroline County/King George County Work Zone

Route 301 at Rappahannock River
(New) Wednesday, 6:30 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound from near the bridge over the Rappahannock River for the bridge rehabilitation project. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.

Essex County Work Zones

Route 17
Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on southbound Route 17 at the bridge over Mt. Landing Creek for repairs to the bridge. Expect brief delays near the bridge approaches.

Gloucester County Work Zones

Secondary Route Paving and Restriping
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures or alternating traffic with flagging operations on various routes throughout Gloucester County. Crews are restriping existing line markings on various roads. Motorists should expect slow moving construction equipment and delays near the mobile work zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be wet and may adhere to vehicle. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear. Crews will also be paving low-volume secondary routes, routes to be surfaced treated include: 642, 672, 1105 1224, 1225, 1226, 1227, 1231, 1239 and 1290.

King and Queen County Work Zones

Route 14
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 14 near Darnell Road and Bellevue Lane intersections to allow crews to repair guardrail. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone and intersections. Expect brief delays.

Lancaster County/Middlesex County Work Zone

Route 3 and Robert O. Norris Bridge Temporary Weight Limit Posting
A temporary 15-ton weight limit is in effect on the Norris Bridge. The limit is estimated to be in place for 30 days while VDOT pursues rapid replacement of two pins on the bridge that were found to have abnormalities during a recent inspection. Mathews County Work Zone

Mathews County Restriping
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures or alternating traffic with flagging operations on various routes throughout Mathews County. Crews are restriping existing line markings on various roads. Motorists should expect slow moving construction equipment and delays near the mobile work zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be wet and may adhere to vehicle. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear. Routes include 3, 223, 602 608, 611, 617, 618, 621, 622, 626, 633, 642, 643 and 660.

Middlesex County Work Zone

Middlesex County Restriping
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures or alternating traffic with flagging operations on various routes throughout Middlesex County. Crews are restriping existing line markings on various roads. Motorists should expect slow moving construction equipment and delays near the mobile work zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be wet and may adhere to vehicle. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear.

Westmoreland County Work Zones

Route 642 (Baynesville Road) CLOSED
Baynesville Road is closed to through traffic to allow crews to replace a structurally deficient bridge over the Big Swamp. The bridge is located between Rt. 3 (Kings Highway) and Route 691 (Northernmost Road). A detour is in place along the recommended detour, which is approximately nine miles to include Flat Iron Road and Route 3. The bridge is anticipated to remain closed through mid-November 2017.
