Fredericksburg Christian School is closed Feb. 2 because so many teachers, substitutes and students are out sick.

In a note posted on Facebook, FCS Administrator Rick Yost said student absences continue to increase.

“We have spent the better part of this morning looking at our attendance numbers and consulting with our administrators, our board and local health officials,” Yost wrote.

This year’s strain of the flu has hit particularly hard. A 7-year-old boy in Southwest Virginia died from flu complications, and the CDC says more than 37 children have died so far this year. Louisiana is expecting 1000 deaths from the virus.

Mary Washington Healthcare is at “Level Red” for flu, which severely limits visitors to the hospital.
