From VDOT

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews in the Fredericksburg District are mobilizing tonight ahead of high winds forecast to affect travel in the Fredericksbrg area, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula on Friday.

VDOT crews are ready to respond to any state-maintained road blocked by debris. Crews are coordinating with tree removal contractors and utility partners to work together on debris removal during the storm to quickly re-open travel lanes.

To report debris or a roadway hazard, call VDOT’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623). The Customer Service Center is open 24 hours a day to answer questions and take reports.

What Drivers Should Know

· Before starting a trip, check 511Virginia to see a list of real-time road closures, and plan the most convenient alternate route.

· Reduce your vehicle speed to give yourself additional reaction time.

· If you encounter a traffic signal without power, come to a complete stop, and then treat the intersection as a 4-way stop.

· If you encounter a downed power line, do not try to move the line. Stay away from the line and report the hazard.
