From Germanna Community College

Germanna Community College Center for Workforce instructor Billy Green was recognized by the Virginia Community College System recently with the “Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Accomplishment by a Rising Star” in workforce development training.

The Rising Star Award goes to a college faculty or staff member who has “demonstrated remarkable talents and dedication to furthering workforce development initiatives early in his or her career and has shown exemplary potential for future contributions to the field.”

Green, a construction manager and trainer with Straight Path consulting, teaches a class on basic work zone safety that’s part of Germanna’s new asphalt program.

“After serving as a VDOT employee, he brings vast knowledge to the Germanna family,” said GCC Center for Workforce Business and Career Coordinator Ben Sherman. “He always goes the extra mile to make sure his students succeed,” Sherman added.

“Billy is always willing to give a hand when a company needs that special training,” Sherman said. “He does everything to help their employees have the knowledge to keep them safe and make it home every night to be with their family.”
