From the Fredericksburg Academy

Since 2013, the editors of Virginia Living magazine have been annually reviewing the Commonwealth’s 400+ colleges, private high schools, and public school systems and recognizing those with the strongest student experience.

The recognition focuses on FA’s engagement with the local arts community, including the opportunity to have student’s work featured in local galleries. It also highlights their Fine Arts Festival, held every Spring. The recognition emphasizes Fredericksburg Academy’s dedicated performing arts program, as well, including many concerts throughout the year and two full-scale theater productions.

Theater Director for the Middle and Upper Schools, Todd Pristas, says this of the theater program:

“The performing artists at FA go beyond simply creating and producing art. In every ensemble, performing arts based class, and show, these artists receive individualized instruction, gain the confidence to take creative risks, and are valued for their unique perspectives. Students learn skills that are essential for their future – efficient time management; self confidence and poise; problem-solving techniques; and the ability to be an individual as well as part of a team. Indeed, they defy any usual “stereotype” – the lead in the fall musical is captain of the soccer team, the technical theater assistant is the design editor on the Yearbook staff, and the trombonist in our band is chair of the Honor Council. Students at FA receive a comprehensive education in the performing arts, which gives them the ability to cultivate their whole self, and develop intuition, cognitive ability and most importantly imagination.”

Fredericksburg Academy has earned this recognition for a variety of programs over the past five years. See the full 2018 listing in the State of Education feature in the October issue of Virginia Living, now available on newsstands.

Fredericksburg Academy is an independent, coeducational school for students aged three-years through Grade 12, located in historic Fredericksburg, Virginia.
