A suspect was arrested this morning by deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office after he held his wife against her will and assaulted her at their residence in south Stafford.

On October 17, 2018, at approximately 1:12 a.m., Deputy Philippsen and Deputy Simpson responded to reports of a suspicious person on Bellows Avenue. The caller heard knocking at the front and back doors of the residence, and then looked out the window and saw a person outside.

Deputies began searching the perimeter of the residence and found a female subject crying hysterically. They observed a bleeding laceration on her head; bruising and bloody scratches on her neck, collar bone, and corners of her lips; and a large bruise on her forehead. The subject told deputies her husband was looking for her. Rescue personnel then arrived to provide medical treatment for the victim.

Deputies learned from the victim that she and her husband were arguing, prompting the victim to try to leave the residence. Her husband, identified as Elijah Aguilar, 37, of Fredericksburg then slammed the door to prevent her from leaving. He grabbed her and dragged her down to the basement where he started choking her. She said this caused her to lose consciousness. After waking up, she escaped through the basement door.

The victim told deputies that she believed her husband was still at their residence on Old Forge Drive and that he was likely armed. She also said her four children were still at the residence. The victim was then transported to Mary Washington Hospital.

When deputies arrived at the victim’s residence, they discovered that the suspect and the children were not there. At approximately 3:57 a.m., Deputy Stachurski located the suspect in a vehicle parked at the Fas Mart located at 620 Cambridge Street. He also observed four children in the passenger areas of the vehicle. Custody of the children was turned over to a family member.

Aguilar was taken into custody without incident and charged with abduction, malicious wounding, strangulation, and domestic assault. He is incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail.
