Chatham Christmas program canceled

From National Park Service

Christmas at Chatham, scheduled for Sunday, December 16th has been canceled. Because recent snow and predicted heavy rains this weekend will render the fields normally used for parking at Chatham unusable, the National Park Service has no choice but to cancel Sunday’s event. We do this with a heavy heart, knowing a visit with a period Santa at Chatham has become a community tradition that now spans generations.

Christmas at Chatham typically attracts between 500 and 800 visitors in several hundred vehicles. The risk of vehicles becoming mired or perhaps damaging fields possessing known archaeological resources is too high.

In advance of the holiday season, the Friends of Chatham decorated the interior of Chatham. Though Sunday’s event is cancelled, the decorated main house will be open every day between now and Christmas Eve, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., with a likely early closure at 2:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
