Cooking Autism and Fredericksburg Parks, Rec and Events team up to offer classes

by | Jan 20, 2019 | Ted Schubel

(Fredericksburg)-  Cooking Autism, Inc. is partnering with Fredericksburg Events, Parks, and Rec to offer classes outside of the brick and mortar school setting. These classes are available to all chefs, no matter age, ability, and residency. Classes are offered one Saturday a month for four months. There are two available classes on each of the four Saturdays.

“By popular demand, we are excited to present a monthly life-skills cooking class for our whole community. Each class will run between 30-45 minutes. We woulds like to encourage our special needs community to participate. We will focus on communication, fine motor skills, following step by step directions, asking and answering questions, using imaginative practices, and encourage using our five senses to encourage food textures,” said Cooking Autism’s April Burch.

“We will be providing communication tools, visual aids, and hand over hand support as needed. Each student will be assisted based on their ability and desire,” she said.

Each session we will focus on a fun, and well loved food, to cook. Everyone will get to chooses if they would like to eat their own masterpiece! (Gluten free and dairy free options available upon early request to [email protected])

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Wheel chairs accommodations available.
