I-95 traffic stops at exit 140 in Stafford early Wednesday morning

Interstate 95 northbound and southbound traffic at Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) in Stafford County will be stopped for three intervals, up to 30 minutes at a time, between midnight and 5 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, for utility work as part of the I-95 Interchange Reconfiguration and Courthouse Road widening project.

Virginia State Police will slowly roll traffic on I-95 northbound and southbound to a stop just after midnight near the Exit 140 interchange. Traffic will be stopped up to 30 minutes intermittently until 5 a.m. Wednesday for motorist safety.

All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is encouraging overnight travelers to use Route 1 or Route 301 to avoid delays.

Overhead message boards will warn drivers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and delays.
