The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal accident that occurred in the county on Thursday afternoon resulting in the death of a 31-year-old male subject.

On January 24, 2019, at approximately 4:00 p.m., deputies from the Stafford Sheriff’s Office along with members of the Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department responded to reports of an auto accident in the area of Shelton Shop Road and Winding Creek Road. Deputies arrived on scene to find a head on collision involving two vehicles.

The preliminary investigation, led by Deputy Kevin Lytle, indicates that a gray Nissan Xterra was traveling northbound on Shelton Shop Road when it went off the roadway onto the right shoulder with the passenger side tires. The driver traveled through the ditch for several hundred feet before overcorrecting and crossing the double yellow line, striking a black Nissan Rogue head on.

The driver of the Nissan Rogue was identified as 31-year old Omio Chowdhury, of Stafford County. Mr. Chowdhury was transported to Mary Washington Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Xterra was also transported to Mary Washington Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
