Where: Children’s Museum Downtown

Celebrate Black History Month at the Children’s Museum Downtown with energetic performances from Ezibu Muntu African Dance at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. Learn more about inspiring African American inventors and historical figures at one of our Education Stations, where you can construct a rocket launcher and picture yourself in space like marvelous Mae Jemison; or imagine you are chartering a bank like the magnificent Maggie Walker.

\Keep the celebration going and check out these Education Stations on Saturdays and Sundays Downtown, throughout the month of February.

  • Learn about Maggie Walker, the first African American woman to charter a bank, with a “Create Your Own Currency” activity.
  • Learn about Mae Jemison, the first African American woman to go to space, with a “Create a Roaring Rocket Launcher” activity.
