Here’s a joint release from Sheriff’s Offices in Louisa and Albemarle:

At approximately 1:22 pm the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office received a statewide broadcast from the Fredericksburg Police Department, about Barry N. Sullivan, 45-year-old male, who is a person of interest for questioning regarding a homicide investigation in their jurisdiction. Barry Sullivan was last seen in Louisa County driving a 2003 black Honda, UVN7771 and was reported to possibly be armed and dangerous.

At 2:55 PM Special Ops Detectives from Louisa County Sheriff’s Office observed the vehicle on Louisa Rd, in the area of Columbia Rd. They attempted to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle, when it accelerated and attempted to flee from the officers. After traveling approximately 7 miles and into the county of Albemarle, the vehicle came to a stop.

Officers began giving the driver commands, to which he did not respond. The driver was found to have suffered what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. After positive identification, Barry Sullivan was pronounced dead on scene. This incident is still under investigation by the Albemarle County Police Department.
