In 2017, Cole became the first African-American and youngest person to receive any party’s nomination for the 28th District.

The 28th District Democratic Nominating Committee declared Cole as the official nominee last night after the deadline passed for others to declare their candidacy. The committee also canceled the 28th District caucus that was scheduled for April 27.

“We have the opportunity this year to correct history and send Rev. Cole down to Richmond to fight for Stafford County values of fairness, decency, and equal opportunity,” said Ben Litchfield, Nominating Committee Chair. “As a man of deep faith, Rev. Cole is a champion of civil rights and economic justice. It is without reservation that I ask you to join me in congratulating Rev. Cole and working to secure his victory in November.”

In addition to Litchfield’s endorsement, Cole has received endorsements from other Virginia political leaders, including Delegate Jennifer Carroll Foy (HD 2), Delegate Sam Rasoul (HD 11), Delegate Hala Ayala (HD 51), Delegate Mark Levine (HD 45), Senator Scott Surrovell (SD 36), The Honorable Michael Futrell, former Fredericksburg Mayor Lawrence Davies, and Caitlin Bennet, Chair of the Fredericksburg Democratic Committee and Finance Director – VA Young Democrats.
