From Friends of the Rappahannock

Daria Christian first joined Friends of the Rappahannock in 2010 as the Education Director. Since joining FOR, she has grown the environmental education program by leaps and bounds. The FOR education program has grown from reaching 3,500 students a year to over 13,000 students. Through her leadership and grant-writing capabilities, she has tripled the size of the FOR educational staff.

In 2014, she was promoted to Assistant Director. A leader in the state in Water and Watershed Education, she is a member of the Virginia No Child Left Inside Coalition and the Virginia Association for Environmental Educators. She recently completed the Virgnia Natural Resource Leadership Institute fellowship at the University of Virginia’s Institute for Environmental Negotiation.

“It has been my pleasure as a member of the Executive Committee at FOR during the last four years to work with Daria and witness her passion for educating others about the river. Her drive and devotion for protecting this amazing natural resource is evident in her work and I am very excited to see what unfolds next with Daria at the helm,” said Sam Foltz, FOR’s Executive Committee Chair.

Daria believes watershed education is at the heart of all efforts by FOR. From educating our political leaders, to our community, and to the next generation of river stewards, she knows everyone plays a vital part in the health of the Rappahannock River.
