Have you signed up yet for summer reading at the library?

by | Jun 22, 2019 | Around Town

How does it work? Summer Reading includes these fun features:

  • Missions: Fun adventures with activities to complete in the library and out in the community. Complete a minimum number of activities to finish the mission and receive a digital badge and points.
  • Reading lists will introduce you to great new reads, which you can then add to your reading log.
  • Fun games to play, which earn you 5 points the first time you play! Kids and teens unlock new games for each level of summer reading.
  • Digital badges to earn and collect.
  • Your dashboard tracks your progress through summer reading.
  • A Certificate of completion can be printed out when kids and teens reach 2,000 points!

Parents and caregivers of early readers, why should your child join?
Reduce summer learning loss! Your children worked hard this school year, so don’t let them lose ground! On tests across all measures and grades, children who participate in public library summer reading programs outperform those who don’t participate.

How to Sign Up

Did you participate in Summer Reading last year? If so, click on “Log In” and use your same username and password to sign up for this year’s program (kids and teens, please verify your current age, grade, and school in your account).

  1. If you are just signing yourself up, click on “I’m registering myself only.”
  2. Select your age range and the program you wish to sign up for:
    • Kids: Ages 0-12
    • Teens: Ages 13-17
    • Adults: Ages 18 and up
  3. Then fill out the rest of the form. Required fields are marked with an asterisk(*).
  4. You will need to select a unique username and a password that is seven or more characters, including at least one number and one letter.
  5. If you enter your email address, you will receive an email confirmation of your registration, along with your username and password for your records.

If you are a parent who would like to also register your children:

  1. Click on “I’m a parent registering my kids.”
  2. You will first sign yourself up and then all of your children. Those accounts will be linked under yours for easy access throughout the summer.
  3. Children do NOT need to have their own username and passwords unless they want to interact with Summer Reading on their own.

Complete your registration, and you are ready to read! Adults can also opt in to receive text notifications for reminders to log reading, prize pick-ups, and more. Click on “My Account” > “Text Message Options” to sign up for those.

How to Log Reading

Children and Teens log reading minutes, and adults log books read. All logging activity earns points!

If you are a parent logging for 1 or more children, click on the child’s account to apply the log for that child. You can apply minutes to more than one account at a time.

Book reviews are optional (but we love it when you share them!) When you submit a book review, it goes into a queue for staff to take a look and link up your book to the library catalog. Then she or he will make your review public or not, depending on your preference.
