Friends of the Rappahannock is excited to announce that we have been awarded an $810,000 Innovative Nutrient and Sediment Reduction grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s Chesapeake Bay Stewardship Fund.
NFWF’s Chesapeake Bay Stewardship Fund awarded a total of $12 million towards restoration and conservation in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
This grant will support the work of the Rappahannock River Roundtable and will work to accelerate on the ground restoration projects outlined in Commonwealth’s Phase III Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP). This plan outlines a robust strategy to achieve pollution reduction goals in the Rappahannock River and we look forward to working with over 30 regional partners across 18 counties to install high quality projects.Projects will focus on priority best management practices including:
- Riparian Buffer Restoration
- Urban and Suburban Tree Planting
- Nutrient Management Planning
- Oyster Reef Restoration
- Living Shorelines
- Livestock Exclusion
