Local car dealerships switch roles to fight for a cure

Two local automotive groups with high profiles in the Fredericksburg community have joined together in an unprecedented effort to raise awareness for cancer initiatives.  Pohanka Nissan and Pohanka Hyundai have partnered together with Radley Cadillac and Radley Chevrolet in a joint effort to raise money for cancer that will go directly toward making an impact in the local Stafford/Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg area, by launching a fund and a website called “DriveTheCure.com.”

“We have always made a huge effort to support local charities and to improve our local community, stated Tim Pohanka of Pohanka Nissan. October is typically a month where people show their colors to support Breast Cancer initiatives, but may be reluctant to donate because everything appears to go to national charities. We have selected the Mary Washington Regional Cancer Center as the sole recipient of 100 percent of all donations during our Drive The Cure initiative.  What is unique about our campaign is that we have joined forces with Radley Cadillac and Radley Chevrolet to help double our marketing impact and double our donations.”

“Tim Pohanka and I have been both friends and adversaries for over 30 years, by nature of the business we are in,” stated Jonathan Pittman, Dealer Principle of the Radley Dealerships in Fredericksburg. “However, what we both have in common is the fact that we both have lost family members and people close to us to cancer, so we are unified in our attempt to help our local neighbors who are currently suffering from the disease. This Saturday, October 26th, from 1:00pm-3:00pm, Tim Pohanka and I will be dressing in “pink” and trading places at each other’s dealerships, and competing against each other to raise money. WBQB Radio will be on hand to broadcast our efforts live at each dealership.”

Both dealerships are donating a portion of every vehicle sold or serviced at their dealerships in the month of October to support their GoFundMe account at DriveTheCure.com. Anyone wishing to make a donation or purchase a “Drive The Cure” wristband or T-shirt can do so by stopping by any of the four dealership showrooms before October 31st, or by logging on to the DriveTheCure.com website.
