Stafford Sheriff’s Office investigating single vehicle accident following pursuit

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single vehicle accident Wednesday morning following a reckless driving incident and pursuit on River Road.

On November 20, 2019, at approximately 7:12 a.m., Lt. Diggs observed a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road. He conducted a traffic stop in the area of John Lee Pratt Park located at 120 River Road. The lieutenant approached the vehicle and detected the strong odor of marijuana.

Additional units were called to the scene. Before they arrived, the suspect drove away at a high rate of speed, and a pursuit ensued. The lieutenant then observed the suspect vehicle drive off the roadway and flip over. The driver was ejected from the vehicle. Rescue personnel responded and the driver was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life threatening injuries. He was identified as a 34-year-old man from Fredericksburg.

The incident remains under active investigation. Charges are pending.
