The former chairman of the King George School Board has been charged with felony murder in connection with a fatal hit-and-run death in October. The King George Sheriff’s Office says 61-year old John Davis is also charged with felony murder. Sgt. Kecia Wharton says Davis was arrested Thursday and is in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
These charges come from an incident on October 25 when 44-year old Jose Mendez of King George was walking westbound on the shoulder of Dahlgren Road near Hill Drive when he was struck by a vehicle in front of the Williams Creek Office Park. Police say the driver left the scene. The body wasn’t discovered until the following morning. Mendez was dead when emergency workers got to the scene.
Sgt. Wharton tells us King George Sheriff’s Office detectives responded to the scene and began an intensive investigation. Multiple witnesses were interviewed and physical evidence was collected and analyzed. Facts and forensics presented Davis as the sole suspect.
Davis is currently not on the school board.
