Newest LOVEwork unveiled at Rappahannock United Way

by | Mar 2, 2020 | Around Town

Rappahannock United Way (RUW) has unveiled a life-sized LOVE artwork, now on display at their headquarters near Shannon Airport on Tidewater Trail.

The artwork is an extension of the “Virginia is for Lovers” brand, which in 2019 is celebrated 50 years since its inception. Rappahannock United Way’s LOVEwork is one of more than 170+ giant LOVE letters, called LOVEworks, in towns and cities across the Commonwealth.

“Virginia is for Lovers is about doing the things you love with the people you love most,” said Rita McClenny, president and CEO of the Virginia Tourism Corporation. “The new LOVEwork at Rappahannock United Way captures that idea perfectly, and gives you an authentic sense of place as it showcases RUW mobilizing the caring power of its community and the call to #LIVEUNITED. We are excited that Rappahannock United Way will help us share the LOVE with travelers, helping them to discover for themselves why Virginia is for Lovers.”

Rappahannock United Way’s LOVEwork is painted in their brand colors and will be decorated to reflect its community impact driven programs. Examples would be Free Tax Services, Early Literacy, and ALICE Awareness. The LOVEwork was created by local artist Hunter Perkinson, owner of Featherstone Forge.

Visitors to Rappahannock United Way’s LOVEwork are encouraged to take pictures with it and share them on Facebook at Facebook.com/VirginiaisforLovers and on Instagram and Twitter, tag @unitedwayrapp, and using the hashtag #LOVEVA. A full list of LOVEworks can be found at Virginia.org/LOVE.
