Germanna grad working as FEMA first responder in NYC

Matthew Hebert, a Germanna Community College graduate has returned to GCC to take nursing classes who a week ago went to New York City as part of a FEMA effort help with ambulance transports as an EMT.    He works for Lifecare, based in Stafford County. The task force he is a part of responds to ambulance calls from a staging area in the Bronx Zoo parking lot.

“When your country calls, you go,” Hebert, 28, said by telephone from New York this weekend.Hebert said on his Facebook page that the crew he is part of worked a 24-hour shift this weekend, for two hours rest, then began responding to calls again.   LifeCare is owned by another Germanna grad, Kevin Dillard.

Matthew Hebert is the son of Bob and Beth Hebert of Spotsylvania County. Their daughter Anna, another Germanna graduate, is a nurse at the Sunshine House in Fredericksburg.

“People talk about millennials,” Bob Hebert said.  “But I tell you, Matthew and Anna are my role models.   “It’s a scary time to be a healthcare worker. My wife and I pray every morning and evening for Matthew and Anna’s safety. We are so very proud of their selfless devotion to others in this crisis.”
