From Fredericksburg Police:

Sunday afternoon at 4:48 p.m., the Fredericksburg Police E-911 Communications Center received a report of a single motor vehicle accident in the 2300 block of Washington Avenue. A convertible traveling south on Germania Street at a high rate of speed struck a curb and a tree before it went airborne. The passenger was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a female, was taken to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition.

The deceased has been identified as 60-year old Robert Lassinger, of Fredericksburg. His next of kin has been notified.
