Rappahannock Area Health District says 33 people hospitalized with COVID-19

The Rappahannock Area Health District reports 33 people are hospitalized in the region with COVID-19. There were 22 new cases reported from yesterday for a local total of 1,129.

Caroline 45
 
Eight staff members with the Health District have tested positive for COVID-19. RAHD is currently conducting case investigations and reaching out to contacts. Approximately 15 additional staff have been identified as at risk for some level of exposure and are quarantining at home. Due to staffing shortages, the Rappahannock Area Health District will not be performing in-person clinical services through May 28.
 
The Stafford Health Department is closed at this time. The Spotsylvania Health Department is closed Friday for cleaning and will reopen on Tuesday. Cleaning has been completed at the Fredericksburg Health Department. The health departments in King George and Caroline have not been impacted by this outbreak and remain open
 
Virginia’s unemployment rate surged into double digits in April.  The U-S Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the state’s jobless rate stood at 10.6% in April. The unemployment rate was up from only 2.9% a year ago in April 2019.
