Unity in the Community: A message from Sheriff Harris

by | May 30, 2020 | Police and Fire

From the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office:

Several years ago we stood strong with a diverse group of our community representatives and pledged an oath of unity. We stood strong as a community then and still stand strong today. Spotsylvania is comprised of a diverse population of citizens, which provides a beautiful complexion to a beautiful County.
“The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office celebrates diversity and supports equality. The idea of unity is not just a formality, it is a responsibility. Unity is one of the fundamental beliefs upon which our country was founded.
As the Sheriff of Spotsylvania County, I pledge to uphold the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia without bias or prejudice. I will continue to be deeply committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity, fairness, and equality for all citizens of our community. I further pledge to mentor the young law enforcement professionals entering this great calling, to instill these principles and to pass along the wisdom of age and experience and provide guidance to them as they travel along their path of public service to our citizens.
All citizens of Spotsylvania are to be treated with respect and professionalism, regardless of age, ethnicity, language, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or any characteristics that make our community unique.
We the citizens of Spotsylvania make a pledge to uphold the ideals of unity and safety. We pledge that we will spread the message to our fellow citizens to uphold the morals of unity, strength of character and tolerance, as these are the markings of a valued community. We will continue to work with the Sheriff in order to ensure their high standards of professionalism, fairness, and equality.”
