I-95 Southbound

Exit 148 (Quantico Marine Corps Base) to Exit 140 (Courthouse Road), Stafford County

Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m – 10 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closures at various points on I-95 southbound for work zone barrier placement associated with the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension (Fred Ex) project.

Exit 140 (Courthouse Road), Stafford County

Monday – Saturday, 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. Milling and paving on I-95 southbound near Exit 140 (Courthouse Road). Single lane closure begins at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Two lanes reopen the following morning by 5 a.m. and all lanes reopen by 7 a.m.

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway), Stafford County

Wednesday – Thursday, 9 p.m – 5 a.m. Single lane closure. Repairs to bridge over Potomac Creek, which is just north of Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway).

Exit 133 (Route 17) to Exit 130 (Route 3), Stafford County and City of Fredericksburg

Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Single lane closure to remove work zone barrier and pour concrete for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project.

Exit 130 (Route 3) to Exit 118 (Thornburg), City of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County

Monday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure for painting of fresh pavement markings. Mobile operation.

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) Exit Ramp, Spotsylvania County

Monday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure on the I-95 southbound exit ramp to Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) for painting of fresh pavement markings. Mobile operation.

Exit 118 (Thornburg) to Exit 104 (Carmel Church), Spotsylvania County and Caroline County

Sunday – Monday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. and Monday – Tuesday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure on I-95 southbound between mile markers 117 and 108, near the Safety Rest Area at Ladysmith. Mobile operation to install pavement markers.

I-95 Northbound

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) Entrance and Exit Ramps, Spotsylvania County

Wednesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure on the I-95 northbound entrance and exit ramps at Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) for painting of fresh pavement markings. Mobile operation.

Exit 130 (Route 3) to Exit 133 (Route 17), City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County

Monday – Friday,  9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single lane closure on I-95 northbound between Exit 130 (Route 3) and Exit 133 (Route 17) area. Crews will collect soil samples for the I-95 Northbound Rappahannock River Crossing project.

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 140 (Courthouse Road), Stafford County

Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m – 4:30 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure on I-95 northbound for pipe inspections and work zone barrier placement associated with the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension (Fred Ex) project.

Exit 143 (Garrisonville Road) to Exit 148 (Quantico Marine Corps Base), Stafford County

Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m – 4:30 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure on I-95 northbound for work zone barrier installation and pipe inspections associated with the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension (Fred Ex) project.

Stafford County

Route 1

Tuesday – Wednesday, 6 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single lane closures at Route 1 intersection with Hospital Center Boulevard for utility work under permit.

Route 1 Northbound

Monday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single lane closure at South Campus Boulevard intersection for utility work under permit.

Route 17 Southbound

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Route 17 southbound right turn lane to Sanford Drive will close each day as part of the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project.

Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Area

Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Crews are working on final construction activities as part of the Exit 140 diverging diamond interchange and Courthouse Road widening project. Expect brief delays and intermittent flagging operations with alternating, one-way traffic at the following locations:

  • Courthouse Road, between Cedar Lane and the I-95 interchange
  • Austin Ridge Drive, between Courthouse Road and Shields Drive
  • Winding Creek Road, between Courthouse Road and Embrey Mill Road

Surface Treatment

Monday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be resurfacing multiple state-maintained routes using surface treatment. Motorists should be alert for one-way, alternating traffic directed by flagging crews on the following routes:

  • Route 663 (Coakley Lane)
  • Route 719 (William and Mary Lane)
  • Route 1430 (Timothy Lane)

Vista Woods subdivision

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be paving multiple state-maintained routes in the subdivision. Paving work in the neighborhood will be underway through late June, weather permitting. Motorists should be alert for one-way, alternating traffic directed by flagging crews.

City of Fredericksburg 

Route 1 and Princess Anne Street

Sunday – Monday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect intermittent lane closures at the Route 1, Princess Anne Street and Hanson Avenue intersection. Crews will install a new traffic pattern and traffic signal equipment as part of the Chatham Bridge project. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. Changes go into effect Monday, June 22, when the Chatham Bridge on Route 3 Business closes to traffic. Route 1 at the Falmouth Bridge will remain open.

Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge

Monday, 5 a.m. Chatham Bridge closes to traffic around 5 a.m. Monday, June 22. The bridge will remain closed through October 2021 for an improvement project. Signs will guide motorists along the detour route. Be alert for overnight single lane closures Sunday at 9 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday for the covering of highway signs.

Spotsylvania County

Route 609 (Thornton Rolling Road)

Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. One-way, alternating traffic between Route 17 (Mills Drive) and Caroline County line for pavement repair and paving. Motorists should follow direction from flagging crews and anticipate brief delays.

Route 610 (Elys Ford Road)

Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. One-way, alternating traffic between Route 3 and Route 616 (U.S. Ford Road) for pavement repair and paving.

Route 621 (Orange Plank Road)

Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. One-way, alternating traffic between Route 3 and Brock Road. Motorists should follow direction from flagging crew. Crews will be applying fresh shoulder stone following recent paving.

Gloucester County

Route 198

Tuesday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. One-way, alternating traffic between Turks Ferry Road and Pampa Road for milling, paving, and placement of pavement markings and shoulder stone. Motorists will be directed through the work zone by a flagging crew.

King George County

Route 301

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Alternating single lane closures at the intersection with Route 607 (Port Conway Road) and Route 625 (Salem Church Road). Crews are installing traffic signal equipment that will alert Route 301 motorists that vehicles are entering Route 301 from Port Conway and Salem Church roads.

King and Queen County

Route 14

Monday – Thursday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Single lane closures on Route 14 near the Route 33 intersection for milling and paving operations.

Route 14

Monday – Tuesday, 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closure on Route 14 over Heartquake Creek for bridge repairs. The bridge is located approximately 9 miles north of the Route 33 intersection.

King William County (Town of West Point)

Route 30

Sunday – Wednesday, 6 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closures on Route 30 between Eltham Bridge and 18th Street for milling and paving operations.

Route 33

Sunday – Wednesday, 6 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closures on Route 33 between the Lord Delaware Bridge and Main Street for milling and paving operations.

Lancaster County

Route 3

Wednesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. One-way, alternating traffic between Route 651 (Boys Camp Road) and Route 695 (Chesapeake Drive), which is located between Kilmarnock and White Stone. Milling work, to precede upcoming paving. Motorists should expect a temporary rough travel surface in milled areas.

Route 607 (Goodluck Road)

Wednesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. One-way, alternating traffic between Route 3 and Route 200. Milling work, to precede upcoming paving. Motorists should expect a temporary rough travel surface in milled areas.

Road Resurfacing

Tuesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Slurry seal application will take place at various locations in Lancaster County. Expect one-way, alternating traffic in the work zone. Drivers should follow the direction of the flagging crew. Motorists may experience brief delays at the following locations:

  • Route 635 (Steamboat Road)
  • Route 1024 (Harvey Lane)
  • Route 1035 (Town Centre Drive)
  • Route 1041 (DMV Drive)
  • Route 1049 (Technology Park Drive)

Mathews County

 

Route 14

Tuesday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. One-way, alternating lane closures for milling and paving between Main Street and Buckley Hall Road.

 

Route 198

Sunday – Monday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. and Tuesday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. One-way, alternating traffic for installation of pavement markings and shoulder stone following recent paving between Cricket Hill Road and Route 14.

 

Route 611 (Church Street)

Sunday – Monday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. and Tuesday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. One-way, alternating lane closures for milling and paving between Main Street and Glebe Road.

 

Northumberland County

 

Route 630 (Walnut Point Road)

Tuesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. One-way, alternating lane closures on Walnut Point Road between Route 360 and Route 629 (Font Hill Road). Crews will be applying slurry seal to improve the travel surface for motorists.

 

Road Resurfacing

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect one-way, alternating traffic on various routes in Northumberland County to allow crews to apply surface treatment. Drivers may encounter brief delays at the following locations:

 

  • Route 657 (Fleeton Wharf Road)
  • Route 677 (Fleeton Point Circle)
  • Route 1170 (Osprey Way)
  • Route 1172 (Canvasback Drive)
  • Route 1173 (Pintail Place)
  • Route 1174 (Redhead Lane)

 

Richmond County

Route 3 (Historyland Highway) 

Tuesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 3 (Historyland Highway) between Folly Neck Road and Maon Road to allow crews to apply pavement markers.

 

Westmoreland County

Route 609 and Route 622 (Stratford Hall Road)

Tuesday – Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. One-way, alternating traffic on Stratford Hall Road to allow crews to place pavement markers.

Additional Construction Projects in  Fredericksburg District

Essex County 

Route 620 (Dunbrooke Road)

Route 620 (Dunbrooke Road) is closed over Piscataway Creek for a bridge replacement project. The bridge is located between Route 642 (Purkins Road) and Route 622 (Latanes Mill Road). Detour signs are posted along the recommended 9-mile detour route. The road will remain closed until its anticipated completion date in November 2020.

 

Gloucester County and Middlesex County

 

Route 17 Southbound over Dragon Run

Route 17 southbound is reduced to a single lane for a bridge rehabilitation project over Dragon Run. The bridge is located at the county line between Gloucester County and Middlesex County. Project estimated completion is August 2021.

 

King George County

 

Route 301 at Bennion Road and Owens Drive

Construction began June 1 to lengthen several turn lanes on Route 301 in King George County at the intersection with one of the entrances to the Naval Support Facility South Potomac at Dahlgren. The project will be finished in November 2020.

 

King and Queen County

 

Route 617 (Exol Road)

Route 617 (Exol Road) is closed to traffic at the bridge over Exol Swamp while crews replace the structurally deficient bridge. Detour signs are posted along the 8-mile detour around the closure. The bridge will remain closed until November 2020. Click here for the recommended detour route.

 

Route 619 (Owens Mill Road)

Route 619 (Owens Mill Road) is closed for a bridge replacement project over Rickenaw Creek. Detour signs are posted along the recommended 10-mile detour route. The road will remain closed until its anticipated completion date, which has been extended from May 2020 to July 31, 2020.

 

King William County

 

Route 632 (Mount Olive-Cohoke Road)

A portion of Route 632 (Mount Olive-Cohoke Road) is closed for a bridge replacement project. Detour signs are posted along the recommended 6-mile detour route. The road will remain closed until its anticipated completion date in November 2020.

 

Route 662 (Sharon Road)

A portion of Sharon Road is closed for reconstruction following damage from Tropical Storm Michael. A project to reconstruct a slope and replace a culvert will be advertised to potential bidders in summer 2020. The road is anticipated to reopen to traffic by the end of 2020.

 

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 1387 (Loriella Park Drive)

Route 1387 (Loriella Park Drive) is closed to through traffic between Ascot Circle and Leavells Road through mid-July 2020 for a drainage pipe replacement project. Detour signs are posted to guide motorists around the closed portion of Loriella Park Drive, which is located approximately 300 feet east of Ascot Circle.

 

Stafford County

 

Route 1 at Potomac Creek

Construction began June 1 on a project to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge will be complete in July 2022.
