Don’t fall for it: Spotsy Sheriff’s Office says people receiving calls from someone claiming to be a deputy

by | Jul 3, 2020 | Police and Fire

The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office says several in the county have reported calls this week from a person claiming to be deputy. Here’s how it works: The call comes from a local number. The caller claims to be a deputy and threatens arrest if fines are not paid.

The Sheriff’s Office says don’t pay or send money if you receive one of these calls. Sheriff Harris says law enforcement agencies will never solicit money for fees or fines over the phone. You can contact your local law enforcement agency to verify your wanted status and to make further arrangements if necessary.
