by | Jul 21, 2020 | Traffic

Route 1 traffic will be briefly stopped overnight at the Falmouth Bridge between Stafford County and the City of Fredericksburg on the evenings of Thursday, July 23 and Tuesday, July 28.

Motorists on Route 1 northbound and southbound will be stopped at the bridge for up to 15-minute intervals between 10 p.m and 5 a.m. both evenings.

Emergency vehicles will be permitted to pass through the work zone at all times. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.
Traffic will be cleared between each intermittent closure.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and contractor crews are conducting scheduled bridge load testing as part of the bridge’s routine maintenance and inspection. All traffic must be stopped to conduct the test.

Additionally, Route 1 northbound or southbound will be reduced to a single lane on several evenings to allow for bridge testing equipment to be installed. Motorists will encounter a single lane closure at the following dates, times and locations.
