From Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center:

Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center (SRMC) today announced that it is a five-star recipient for C-Sections and Vaginal Deliveries as recognized by Healthgrades, the leading resource that connects consumers, physicians and health systems. This five-star rating indicates that SRMC’s clinical outcomes for both C-Sections and Vaginal Delivery are statistically significantly better than expected.

“We are proud to have been recognized as delivering five-star level care for our maternal patients” said David McKnight, chief executive officer of Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center. “This recognition validates the commitment we have made to provide a superior level of maternal and neonatal care for our community, even throughout the COVID–19 pandemic, in which we have worked tirelessly to provide high quality and compassionate care for our patients.”

“Hospital quality should be top of mind for consumers when they evaluate and compare hospital performance,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “Women who select a hospital with a five-star rating can feel confident in their choice knowing that these organizations are committed to providing exceptional women’s care to their patients.”

Healthgrades analyzed all-payer state data for 16 states for years 2016 through 2018. Healthgrades found that there is a significant variation in hospital quality between those that have received five stars and those that have not. For example, from 2016 through 2018, women having a C-Section or Vaginal Delivery in hospitals rated five-stars have, on average a:

  • 4 percent lower risk experiencing a complication during a C-Section while in the hospital than if they were treated by hospitals rated one star* and a
  • 6 percent lower risk experiencing a complication during a Vaginal Delivery while in the hospital than if they were treated by hospitals rated one star*.

SRMC remains committed to delivering the highest quality maternal and neonatal care throughout the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The hospital has an obstetrics (OB) emergency department, a separate triage and care space that allows for a dedicated, specialized staff – to include specialty trained OB physicians – available for women who are expecting and in need of emergent care 24/7, as well as an onsite neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and a pediatric-friendly emergency room.  To learn more about the precautions we have put into place for our pregnant patients and for more information on COVID-19 and pregnancy – to include our free class offerings and a virtual tour of our Labor and Delivery unit – please go to: https://spotsrmc.com/covid-19/covid-19-and-pregnancy/.
