A reckless driver who fell asleep behind the wheel was arrested by the Stafford Sheriff’s Office for DUI third offense in five years and several other charges.  On September 24th deputies responded to the area of Garrisonville Road near North Stafford High School for a reckless driver. A witness reported a white Nissan Altima was tailgating other vehicles and had crossed over the grass median going in the wrong direction. The
Nissan had stopped for a red light at the intersection with Joyce Street and the driver had fallen asleep.

Police found the driver asleep behind the wheel at 12:03 p.m. and learned he had slept through several light cycles. The driver was identified as 27-year old Robert Brassart of Stafford. Brassart had red, glassy eyes and was unsteady on his feet. He continued to nod off during his interaction
with the deputy. Field sobriety tests were administered and Brassart was arrested for DUI.  During the traffic stop, a second witness informed police he was the victim of a hit and run involving Brassart. The witness relayed he had been stopped at a traffic light at Salisbury Drive and Garrisonville Road and Brassart had struck the rear of his vehicle, causing minor damage. The victim agreed to meet Brassart in a nearby parking lot, but Brassart fled the scene.

Brassart was charged with DUI third offense in five years, driving revoked, refusal, and hit and
run. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
