Spotsylvania Schools recognized as one of Virginia’s best employers

by | Oct 7, 2020 | Schools & Education

This year, Forbes Business Magazine partnered with Statista, a market research company, for the Forbes second annual ranking of America’s best employers by state.  Spotsylvania County Public Schools (SCPS) made this year’s America’s Best Employers by state list; ranking 37 out of 100 in Virginia. This is the first time that Virginia public schools have made the top 100 employers listing.

“When considering the number and quality of organizations and employers throughout the Commonwealth, we are proud to be recognized among such distinguished companies” said Spotsylvania School Superintendent Dr. Scott Baker.  “Any success we achieve in service to our students and community is reflective of the dedicated people who serve tirelessly and from the heart each day. The individual and collaborative efforts of our teachers, administrators, and support staff are the primary focus of our division strategic plan. Two of our four strategic goals focus on our staff’s well-being as well as growth and professional development. We believe that this investment in our staff fosters a culture of collaboration and teamwork which ultimately benefits our students.” said Baker.

The Forbes America’s Best Employers rankings were based on anonymous surveys of 80,000 Americans working for businesses/organizations with at least 500 employees and were conducted on a rolling basis from October 2019 to May 2020. These survey results were compiled and divided into 51 rankings, one for each of the country’s 50 states, plus DC.

“Division-wide professional learning is one of the many ways we support our employees,” shared Dr. Michelle Colbert, Chief Human Resources Officer. “We also provide opportunities for collaboration for our teachers through professional learning communities, mentee/mentor programs, and more,” said Colbert.

“Being one of America’s best employers comes as no surprise to me,” said School Board Chairman Baron Braswell. “Dr. Baker and his leadership team understand the value and importance of our employees. They continuously strive to ensure that our employees have the resources and support they need to meet our mission,” said Braswell.
