I-95 Southbound
Exit 133 (Route 17) Traffic Shift to New Overpass
Tuesday – Wednesday, 7 p.m. – 2 p.m., Single lane closure at 7 p.m. south of Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) and will continue to the Rappahannock River bridge. Double lane closures at 9 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single southbound lane until 2 p.m. Wednesday. Lane closures are needed for 19 consecutive hours of milling, paving and lane striping to shift all southbound traffic onto a new interstate overpass that spans Route 17. Between midnight and 3 a.m., there may be full intermittent traffic stops. All I-95 southbound traffic may be stopped up to 30 minutes at a time to allow crews to move large pieces of equipment within the work zone.

When all lanes reopen, traffic will be traveling over the new overpass in the median of I-95, which will carry the future through travel lanes as part of the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing. Expect major delays with this work zone. I-95 southbound travelers are strongly encouraged to choose an alternate route to avoid delays, especially for destinations outside the Fredericksburg area.

Route 1 Northbound
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single right lane closure on Route 1 northbound between Centreport Parkway and Potomac Creek Lane for the bridge replacement project.
Route 607 (Deacon Road)
Monday – Saturday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Daytime milling and paving, and overnight pavement marking and traffic signal detection equipment work. Expect travel delays. Alternating, single lane closures on Deacon Road between Route 218 (White Oak Road/Butler Road) and Brooke Road. Motorists may experience a temporary rough driving surface on the milled sections.
Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
Sunday – Monday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. and Thursday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Traffic signal work at various intersections on Route 610 between Salisbury Drive and I-95 ramps. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.
Hospital Center Boulevard
Wednesday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Single lane closures on Hospital Center Boulevard between Route 1 and Austin Ridge Drive. Crews will be taking soil samples as part of the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension.
Old Courthouse Road
Wednesday – Thursday,, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Single lane closures on Old Courthouse Road between Route 1 and Hospital Center Boulevard. Crews will be taking soil samples as part of the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension.

Wicklow Drive
Monday – Friday, through late October 2020. Large trucks (up to 180 feet long) with follow cars will be coming in and out of Wicklow Drive from Fall Hill Avenue to deliver bridge beams for the new I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing bridge. These deliveries will take place mid-afternoon a few days a week. While these deliveries are not expected to cause any traffic stops or impacts greater than the current construction activities taking place, residents and travelers should be aware of increased traffic on Wicklow Drive and the potential for delays as trucks pass.

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single lane closures on Route 301 near Owens Drive and Bennion Road for an intersection improvement project. Located near Gate B entrance to Naval Support Activity South Potomac at Dahlgren.

Route 3 at Robert O. Norris Bridge
Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Routine, scheduled bridge inspection of the Norris Bridge. One-way, alternating traffic. Controlled by automated flagging assistance devices, monitored by a certified flagging crew. Weekday lane closures will occur weekly on this schedule through Friday, Oct. 30, weather permitting.

Route 207 Southbound Bridge Replacement
Route 207 is reduced to a single northbound and southbound lane at the bridge over the Mattaponi River. Traffic is traveling in the northbound lanes while the southbound bridge is closed for a replacement project. The new southbound bridge is anticipated to open to traffic in July 2021, with all construction complete by September 2021.

Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge
The Chatham Bridge is closed to traffic for an improvement project. Drivers should follow the posted detour signs directing traffic around the bridge closure. The bridge will reopen to traffic in October 2021, and all construction work will be complete by April 2022.
Gloucester County

Route 3/14 and Route 17 Business (Main Street) Intersection Improvement
Construction begins Wednesday, Sept. 9, on project to reduce driver delay and improve pedestrian access at intersection. After construction, Route 17 Business traffic will have dual left turn lanes and dual right turn lanes when turning onto Route 3/14. On Route 3/14, the traffic pattern approaching Route 17 Business will change to allow for dual left turns southbound. One of the left turn lanes will become a shared lane, and will allow traffic to turn left, proceed straight across, or turn right. New sidewalks with handicapped-accessible ramps, crosswalks, and traffic signal equipment for pedestrian crossings will be installed. Project estimated completion is February 2021.
Pedestrian Improvements on Route 17 Southbound at Gloucester Point
Construction is underway on a project to build sidewalk and crosswalks along Route 17 southbound between Lafayette Heights Drive and Bellehaven Drive. Motorists should be alert for construction along the shoulder during daytime hours on weekdays and periodic single lane closures. Project estimated completion is January 2021.

Pedestrian Improvements at Route 17 and Route 17 Business (Main Street)Â
Construction is underway on a project to build sidewalk, crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, and new pedestrian crossing equipment at the northern intersection of Route 17 and Route 17 Business, and at Route 17 and McFadden Way. Motorists should be alert for construction during daytime hours on weekdays, as well as for periodic single lane closures and temporary traffic pattern changes. Project estimated completion is January 2021.

Route 17 Southbound over Dragon Run
Route 17 southbound is reduced to a single lane for a bridge rehabilitation project over Dragon Run. The bridge is located at the county line between Gloucester County and Middlesex County. Project estimated completion is August 2021.

Route 301 at Bennion Road and Owens Drive
Construction began June 1 to lengthen several turn lanes on Route 301 in King George County at the intersection with one of the entrances to the Naval Support Activity South Potomac at Dahlgren. The project will be finished in November 2020.

Route 617 (Exol Road)
Route 617 (Exol Road) is closed to traffic at the bridge over Exol Swamp while crews replace the structurally deficient bridge. Detour signs are posted along the 8-mile detour around the closure. The bridge will remain closed until November 2020. Click here for the recommended detour route.

Route 30 and Route 360 Intersection Improvement
Construction is underway to improve the intersection of Route 30 and Route 360. The project will build dedicated right and left turn lanes and through lanes for eastbound Route 30, and will modify turn lanes on Route 360. A sidewalk will be built along Route 30 to allow pedestrians to cross Route 360. The project will be completed in June 2021.
Route 608 (Locust Hill Road)
A portion of Route 608 (Locust Hill Road) over Dorrell Creek is closed to allow crews to replace two large pipes. Locust Hill Road is closed to through traffic between Route 609 (Smokey Road) and Route 628 (Dorrell Road). Construction will be underway through early 2021. Signs are posted along the recommended detour route.
Route 662 (Sharon Road)
A portion of Sharon Road is closed for reconstruction following damage from Tropical Storm Michael. A project to reconstruct a slope and replace a culvert will be advertised to potential bidders in summer 2020. The road is anticipated to reopen to traffic by the end of 2020.
Stafford County

Route 1 at Potomac Creek
Construction began June 1 on a project to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge will be complete in July 2022.
Route 644 (Rock Hill Church Road)
Route 644 (Rock Hill Church Road) is closed to through traffic between Dunbar Drive and Van Horn Lane for installation of a temporary bridge over Aquia Creek. The road will remain closed to through traffic until mid-October, when it will reopen as a single-lane crossing, and will be controlled by traffic signals.
