Increased DUI arrests in Spotsylvania

by | Dec 30, 2020 | Police and Fire

From The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office:

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office often warns drivers about the dangers of impaired driving. Since January 1, 2020, Spotsylvania Deputies have arrested two hundred-twenty individuals for driving while intoxicated.  Of those two hundred-twenty, forty-one individuals were arrested since November 1st during the holiday season.  Drivers who are caught driving impaired can expect the impact of an arrest to include jail time, fines, fees and completion of the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program (VASAP).  These expenses can exceed well over $10,000 just for making a bad decision to get behind the wheel impaired.

Impaired driving is a serious crime that occurs every day in Virginia, often committed by people who would otherwise consider themselves to be law-abiding.  The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office has a zero-tolerance approach toward DUI, whether a driver is impaired by alcohol, legal or illegal drugs, and other substance. We remain committed to keeping our roadways safe through a combined effort of education and enforcement.  We ask that drivers make a responsible decision to not drive impaired and find a sober driver.
