Slow down…close call for Spotsy emergency workers

by | Jan 21, 2021 | Police and Fire

From Spotsylvania Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management:

Early this morning, our Rescue Engine 8 was providing assistance to travelers on I-95 involved in a motor vehicle collision. The crew had blocked the two left lanes of travel, and had placed traffic cones to protect the scene and the occupants involved in the incident, allowing traffic to continue in the right lane. While awaiting the arrival of a tow truck, another vehicle traveling towards the scene failed to move into the right lane, drove through cones, struck a guardrail, and ultimately collided with Rescue Engine 8.

Thankfully, none of our crew members were injured, and no one in the vehicle that collided with it was injured.

This is a reminder that Virginia law requires drivers to slowdown and move over to provide a safe space for our emergency workers to operate when on our roadways. This is also a request to please slow down and exercise caution when approaching our emergency vehicles and personnel operating on or near our roadways.
