I-95 Northbound

Exit 130 (Route 3)

Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single northbound lane closure near the Exit 130 interchange for work zone barrier installation for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project.

 

Exit 133 (Route 17) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)

Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single northbound lane closure near Exit 133 and Exit 136 interchanges for work zone barrier installation for the I-95 Northbound Rappahannock River Crossing project and 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension (Fred Ex) project.

 

Exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville Road) to Exit 148 (Quantico)

Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single northbound lane closure between mile markers 145 and 148. Material deliveries and pile driving for the 95 Express Lanes Fred Ex project.

Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) to Exit 133 (Route 17)

Monday – Thursday, 6 a.m. – 10 a.m. Mobile single lane closure between the two interchanges for various construction activities as part of the 95 Express Lanes Fred Ex project.

 

Exit 133 (Route 17)

Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Single lane closure near the Exit 133 interchange to allow crews to shift work zone barrier for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project.

Route 1 Northbound

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 1 northbound for the Potomac Creek bridge replacement project located between Centreport Parkway and Potomac Creek lane.

 

Route 1 Southbound

Sunday – Thursday, 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closure at the bridge over Accokeek Creek, located between the Courthouse Road and American Legion Road intersections for bridge repair.

 

Route 3 Business (Kings Highway)

Saturday, Jan. 23 and Sunday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single lane closures on Rt. 3 Business eastbound and westbound between Cool Spring Road and Chatham Heights Road. Routine bridge inspection of structure over CSX railroad tracks.

 

Route 3 Business (Kings Highway) Westbound

Monday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single westbound lane closure overnight between Cool Spring Road and Chatham Heights Road. Bridge maintenance for structure over CSX railroad tracks.

 

Route 17 Business and Olde Forge Drive

Thursday. A new traffic signal will be activated at the Route 17 and Olde Forge Drive intersection on Thursday, Jan. 28. To allow motorists time to adjust to the presence of the new signal, it will flash through Monday, Feb. 1, when it will then go into full color operation between 9 a.m. and noon. When the traffic signal at Olde Forge Drive is placed into full operation on Feb. 1, the existing traffic signal at Route 17 and Short Street will be deactivated and removed. Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. All lanes remain open; Shoulder closures only. Crews will be working at numerous intersections along Route 610 in Stafford between I-95 and Keystone Drive to install additional or upgraded traffic signal communications equipment.

 

Route 626 (Leeland Road)

Saturday, Jan. 23 and Sunday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single lane closure on Leeland Road, just north of Primmer House Road intersection. Routine bridge inspection of structure over CSX railroad tracks. 

 

Route 684 (Mine Road)

Monday – Friday,9 a.m. – 3 p.m. All lanes remain open; Shoulder closures only. Crews will be working at numerous intersections between Route 610 and Highpointe Boulevard to install additional or upgraded traffic signal communications equipment.

 

Hospital Center Boulevard

Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Single lane closures on Hospital Center Boulevard between Route 1 and Austin Ridge Drive for the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension.

 

Old Courthouse Road

Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Single lane closures on Old Courthouse Road between Hospital Center Boulevard and Route 1 for the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension.

Route 1

Tuesday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Ditch cleaning operations between Guinea Station Road and Massaponax Church Road. Mobile single lane closures.

 

Route 1 Southbound

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Guardrail installation. Single southbound lane closure near North Point Drive intersection.

 

Route 17 (Mills Drive)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Drivers on Route 17 northbound and southbound should expect alternating shoulder closures on Route 17 between Glenwood Drive and Germanna Point Drive for tree trimming. This work is part of the Route 17 widening and I-95 overpass replacement project.

 

Route 208 (Courthouse Road) and Route 639 (Leavells Road)

Tuesday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Single lane closures at intersection for traffic signal pole inspections.

 

Route 208 (Courthouse Road)

Tuesday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Road shoulder repairs between Smith Station Road and Plantation Forest Drive. Mobile single lane closures.

 

Route 621 (Orange Plank Road)

Monday Friday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Ditch cleaning operations between Brock Road and Winewood Lane. Mobile single lane closures.

 

Route 1421 (Plantation Forest Drive)

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Drainage pipe repair and installation in the 7200 block of Plantation Forest Drive. Crews will direct traffic through the work zone.

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single lane closure for guardrail repair, around one mile north of the intersection with Lewis Memorial Drive.

Expect delays and allow extra travel time. Travelers should follow direction from flagging crew. Project completion scheduled for Feb. 2021.

 

Route 17

Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Right turn lane and right shoulder closures on Route 17 northbound and southbound between intersection of Fiddlers Green Road and Belroi Road. Construction is part of pedestrian improvement project to add sidewalk and pedestrian crossing signal equipment.

 

King George County

 

Route 3 and Route 205 (Ridge Road) Intersection

Monday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Single lane closures at intersection for traffic signal pole inspections.

 

Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) and Route 301 Intersection

Monday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Single lane closures at intersection for traffic signal pole inspections.

 

Route 301 and Bennion Road/Owens Drive Intersection

Route 301 Southbound

Route 3 Eastbound

Richmond County and Town of Tappahannock

 

Route 360 over the Rappahannock River: Downing Bridge

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. One-way, alternating traffic on Route 360 on the Downing Bridge over the Rappahannock River between Richmond County and the Town of Tappahannock. Bridge maintenance to repair bridge deck, bridge joints. Traffic will be directed by automated flagging assistance devices.

 

Westmoreland County

 

Route 3

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single lane closure and shoulder closure on Route 3 between Flat Iron Road and Winter Harbor Road. Construction activity for milling and paving along the road shoulder as part of the Route 3 Passing Lanes project.

 

Town of West Point and New Kent County

 

Eltham Bridge

Monday Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Mobile, single eastbound lane closure on Route 30/33 for bridge maintenance work. Work zone barrier installation.

Caroline County

 

Route 207 Southbound Bridge Replacement

Route 207 is reduced to a single northbound and southbound lane at the bridge over the Mattaponi River. Traffic is traveling in the northbound lanes while the southbound bridge is closed for a replacement project. The new southbound bridge is anticipated to open to traffic in Sept. 2021.

 

Route 677 (Camp Road) Detour

Route 677 (Camp Road) will be closed to through traffic between Route 694 (Courtney Road) and Route 693 (Herring Creek Road) at the bridge over Herring Creek beginning Monday, Nov. 30. Crews are replacing existing drainage pipes with a slightly larger box culvert. Motorists should follow signs along the posted detour route, which will be in place for approximately 12 weeks, into early 2021.

 

Route 743 (Clifton Road) over South River

Construction began in December 2020 to replace a structurally deficient timber bridge on Clifton Road over the South River. The existing bridge is open during construction. The new bridge will be a concrete structure, and will allow heavier vehicles to cross. The new bridge is scheduled to open in Oct. 2021.

 

City of Fredericksburg

 

Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge

The Chatham Bridge is closed to traffic for an improvement project. Drivers should follow the posted detour signs directing traffic around the bridge closure. The bridge will reopen to traffic in October 2021, and all construction work will be complete by April 2022.

 

Gloucester County

 

Route 3/14 and Route 17 Business (Main Street) Intersection Improvement

Project to reduce driver delay and improve pedestrian access at intersection. After construction, Route 17 Business traffic will have dual left turn lanes and right turn lanes when turning onto Route 3/14. On Route 3/14, the traffic pattern approaching Route 17 Business will change to allow for dual left turns southbound. One of the left turn lanes will become a shared lane, and will allow traffic to turn left, proceed straight across, or turn right. New sidewalks with handicapped-accessible ramps, crosswalks, and traffic signal equipment for pedestrian crossings will be installed. Project estimated completion is Feb. 2021.

 

Pedestrian Improvements on Route 17 Southbound at Gloucester Point

Construction is underway on a project to build sidewalk and crosswalks along Route 17 southbound between Lafayette Heights Drive and Bellehaven Drive. Motorists should be alert for construction along the shoulder during daytime hours on weekdays and periodic single lane closures. Project estimated completion is Jan. 2021.

 

Pedestrian Improvements at Route 17 and Route 17 Business (Main Street) 

Construction is underway on a project to build sidewalk, crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, and new pedestrian crossing equipment at the northern intersection of Route 17 and Route 17 Business, and at Route 17 and McFadden Way. Motorists should be alert for construction during daytime hours on weekdays, as well as for periodic single lane closures and temporary traffic pattern changes. Project estimated completion is Jan. 2021.

 

Gloucester County and Middlesex County

 

Route 17 Southbound over Dragon Run

Route 17 southbound is reduced to a single lane for a bridge rehabilitation project over Dragon Run. The bridge is located at the county line between Gloucester County and Middlesex County. Project estimated completion is Aug. 2021.

 

Gloucester County and Middlesex County

 

Route 14 Bridge Replacement over Poropotank Creek

Route 14 is closed to through traffic at Poropotank Creek for a bridge replacement project. The bridge is located at the Gloucester County and King and Queen County line. Traffic is detoured to use Route 17 and Route 33 during the project. The road is scheduled to reopen in July 2021.

 

King William County

 

Route 30 and Route 360 Intersection Improvement

Construction is underway to improve the intersection of Route 30 and Route 360. The project will build dedicated right and left turn lanes and through lanes for eastbound Route 30, and will modify turn lanes on Route 360. A sidewalk will be built along Route 30 to allow pedestrians to cross Route 360. The project will be completed in June 2021.

 

Route 608 (Locust Hill Road)

A portion of Route 608 (Locust Hill Road) over Dorrell Creek is closed to allow crews to replace two large pipes. Locust Hill Road is closed to through traffic between Route 609 (Smokey Road) and Route 628 (Dorrell Road). Construction will be underway through early 2021. Signs are posted along the recommended detour route.

 

Route 662 (Sharon Road)

A portion of Sharon Road is closed for reconstruction following damage from Tropical Storm Michael. A project to reconstruct a slope and replace a culvert will be advertised to potential bidders in spring 2021.

 

Stafford County

 

Route 1 at Potomac Creek

Construction is underway to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge will be complete in July 2022.

 

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening

Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.

 

Westmoreland County

 

Route 3 Passing Lanes

Construction began Jan. 4 on a project to build eastbound and westbound passing lanes over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3. When work is complete, Route 3 will become a four-lane undivided road from north of Route 639 (Winter Harbor Road) to east of Route 624 (Longwood Road), with new turn lanes at key intersections. The project will be complete in late Dec. 2021.
