With below freezing temperatures and wintry precipitation in the forecast, crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will remain on duty overnight Tuesday, Feb. 2 to monitor road conditions and treat any slick spots.
VDOT advises drivers to use caution and plan for extra travel time with the potential of icy conditions overnight through early Wednesday, Feb. 3. Black ice is also possible on less traveled secondary roads and neighborhood streets.
While most roads are clear, including Interstate 95, melted snow and slush is expected to refreeze on roads, causing potentially hazardous travel conditions. Also, additional light snow remains possible this evening.
Crews will work overnight to patrol for icing, apply sand to improve traction and salt to reduce slick surfaces.

When traveling on roads with ice or snow, motorists are reminded to go slow and:
o Remove all snow and ice from vehicle
o Drive for conditions by reducing your vehicle speed
o Increase following distance between vehicles
o Use additional caution while traveling on bridges, ramps and overpasses
