Spotsylvania County Public Schools (SCPS) has been recognized as one of the top midsize employers in America.   Forbes Business Magazine partnered with Statista, a market research company, to compile Forbes by surveying 50,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 1,000 employees. Participants were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family, and to nominate organizations other than their own. The final list ranks the 500 large and 500 midsize employers that received the most recommendations. Spotsylvania County Public Schools made this year’s America’s Best Midsized Employers list.

Only 30 of the 500 employers listed were in the education category and of those only six public school divisions earned this distinction in the Forbes ranking. Of those six, SCPS was the only Virginia public school division to make the best midsize employers listing. “This is the second time we have received recognition in the Forbes best employer rankings and we are proud to be recognized among such distinguished organizations” said Spotsylvania School Superintendent  Dr. Scott Baker.   “A primary way in which we strive to meet the needs of the whole child is through cultivating a collaborative learning and work environment that focuses on  supporting the needs of the whole staff member. While we are pleased to receive this additional recognition as a school division, we hope that it further shines a spotlight on the inspiring and dedicated staff who tirelessly serve our students each and every day. We believe that investing in our people ultimately benefits our students and our community.” Baker said.

In 2020, Spotsylvania County Public Schools made the Forbes America’s Best Employers by state list; ranking 37 out of 100 in Virginia. Only 10 of the 132 Virginia public school divisions earned this distinction in the Forbes ranking. Of those 10, SCPS was ranked 4th highest. This was the first time that
Virginia public schools made the top 100 employers listing.

“One of the goals of our strategic plan is to promote a culture of safety, security, and wellness for all students and staff in their learning and work environments,” said School Board Chairman Dawn Shelley.  “Our business is about people. The fact that we continue to be recognized as a top employer
shows how committed the school board and leaders of Spotsylvania County Public Schools are to our staff in making sure that we provide a collaborative and supportive work environment.”
