I-95 Northbound

 

Exit 126 (Route 1/Massaponax)

Monday – Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. and Wednesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m., Single lane closure on I-95 northbound between mile markers 124-125, which is just before the Exit 126 interchange for construction of the Route 17 (Mills Drive) overpass replacement project.

 

Exit 133 (Route 17) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)

  • Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Single northbound lane closure between the interchanges for various construction activities for the Improve 95 program.

 

  • Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single northbound lane closures each evening between the two interchanges to shift traffic slightly to the left. All lanes will reopen at 4:30 a.m.

 

  • Monday – Wednesday, 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. I-95 northbound will be reduced to one lane starting at 10 p.m. each evening. Between midnight and 3 a.m., Virginia State Police will slow roll all northbound traffic to a full stop. Northbound traffic may be stopped up to 30 minutes. All lanes will reopen at 4:30 a.m.

 

I-95 Southbound

 

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 133 (Route 17)

  • Monday – Thursday, 6 a.m. – 10 a.m., Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m., Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closure on I-95 southbound between the two interchanges for various construction activities for the Improve 95 program.

 

  • Wednesday – Thursday, 10 p.m. – 10 a.m. I-95 southbound between the two interchanges will be reduced to one lane. Between midnight and 3 a.m., Virginia State Police will slow roll all southbound traffic to a full stop. Southbound traffic may be stopped up to 30 minutes. Two lanes will reopen at 4:30 a.m. A single southbound lane will remain closed until 10 a.m.

 

  • Thursday – Friday, 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. I-95 southbound will be reduced to one lane. Between midnight and 3 a.m., Virginia State Police will slow roll all southbound traffic to a full stop. Southbound traffic may be stopped up to 30 minutes. Two lanes will reopen at 4:30 a.m. A single southbound lane will remain closed until 6 a.m.

 

Exit 126 (Route 1/Massaponax)

Sunday – Monday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Tuesday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m., Single lane closure on I-95 southbound between mile markers 125-124, which is south of the Exit 126 interchange for construction of the Route 17 (Mills Drive) overpass replacement project.

 

Stafford County

 

Route 1 Northbound

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 1 northbound for the Potomac Creek bridge replacement project located between Centreport Parkway and Potomac Creek lane.

 

Route 17 Business at Short Street & Adjusted Traffic Pattern

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Alternating, single lane closures on Route 17 Business at Short Street for concrete work related to the new traffic signal. The traffic pattern on Route 17 Business at Short Street and Olde Forge Drive has been adjusted. U-turns at both intersections are prohibited to improve safety. Signs will be installed over the next few weeks to guide drivers to Short Street to Thomas Lane to Olde Forge Drive instead of making a U-turn. Click here to read the release.

 

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)

Monday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. The turn lane from Route 610 at the entrance to Stafford Market Place will be closed for signal installation at the intersection.

 

Hospital Center Boulevard

Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Single lane closures on Hospital Center Boulevard between Route 1 and Austin Ridge Drive for the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension.

 

Old Courthouse Road

Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Single lane closures on Old Courthouse Road between Hospital Center Boulevard and Route 1 for the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension.

 

Winding Creek Road Closure & Detour

Starting Monday, March 15, Winding Creek Road between Embrey Mill Road and Wapole Street for six months as part of a Stafford County permit project for developer-proffered improvements to the road. Read the release here.

Route 1 Northbound

Route 3 (Plank Road) Eastbound

Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) Daytime Detour

Tuesday, 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Route 207 southbound traffic will be briefly detoured to allow crews to pave a section of deteriorated pavement in the bridge replacement project work zone. Northbound Route 207 traffic will not be detoured. Sings will direct southbound drivers to follow Nelson Hill Road, which reconnects with Route 207.

 

Essex County

 

Route 17 near Route 360

Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 17 near Route 360 to allow crews to widen the shoulder along the travel lane.

 

Route 17 Northbound

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single northbound lane closure near Route 602 (Coinbrook Road) for guardrail repair.

 

Pavement Marking Mobile Operation

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mobile single lane closures on various routes for pavement marking work on the following routes:

Route 301 Southbound at the Harry Nice Bridge

Monday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Drivers will encounter a single lane closure on Route 301 southbound between Roseland Road and Barnfield Road near the Harry Nice Bridge for utility work for Maryland’s New Nice/Middleton project.

 

King William County

 

Pavement Marking Mobile Operation

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mobile single lane closures on various routes for pavement marking work on the following routes:

Route 360 over the Rappahannock River: Downing Bridge

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. One-way, alternating traffic on Route 360 on the Downing Bridge over the Rappahannock River between Richmond County and the Town of Tappahannock. Bridge maintenance to repair bridge deck, bridge joints. Traffic will be directed by automated flagging assistance devices.

Route 360 near Downing Bridge

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 360 westbound near the Downing Bridge for guardrail repair.

 

Route 690 (Menokin Road)

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mobile operation for pavement marking work.

 

Route 360

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Drivers should be alert to a mobile line painting operation on Route 360 near the Northumberland County line. Flaggers will direct motorists around the work zone.

 

Route 203

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Drivers should be alert to a mobile line painting operation on Route 203 near the Westmoreland County line. Flaggers will direct motorists around the work zone.

 

Westmoreland County

 

Route 3

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 3 between Flat Iron Road and Winter Harbor Road for milling and paving.

 

Route 218 Eastbound

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Guardrail repair. Alternating, one-way traffic on Route 218 near Vertical Ridge Road. A flagging crew will direct drivers through the work zone.

 

Route 301 Northbound

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Guardrail repair. Single northbound lane closure near Route 697 (Lampkin Road).

 

Pavement Marking Mobile Operation

Wednesday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mobile single lane closures on various routes for pavement marking work on the following routes:

 

  • Route 604 (Sandy Point Road)
  • Route 606 (Tucker Hill Road)
  • Route 624 (Flat Iron Road) will be Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Caroline County

 

Route 207 Southbound Bridge Replacement

Route 207 is reduced to a single northbound and southbound lane at the bridge over the Mattaponi River. Traffic is traveling in the northbound lanes while the southbound bridge is closed for a replacement project. The new southbound bridge is anticipated to open to traffic in Sept. 2021.

 

Route 677 (Camp Road) Detour

Route 677 (Camp Road) will be closed to through traffic between Route 694 (Courtney Road) and Route 693 (Herring Creek Road) at the bridge over Herring Creek beginning Monday, Nov. 30. Crews are replacing existing drainage pipes with a slightly larger box culvert. Motorists should follow signs along the posted detour route, which will be in place for approximately 12 weeks, into early 2021.

 

Route 743 (Clifton Road) over South River

Construction began in December 2020 to replace a structurally deficient timber bridge on Clifton Road over the South River. The existing bridge is open during construction. The new bridge will be a concrete structure, and will allow heavier vehicles to cross. The new bridge is scheduled to open in Oct. 2021.

 

City of Fredericksburg

 

Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge

The Chatham Bridge is closed to traffic for an improvement project. Drivers should follow the posted detour signs directing traffic around the bridge closure. The bridge will reopen to traffic in October 2021, and all construction work will be complete by April 2022.

 

Essex County

 

Route 17 Corridor Improvements

Construction has begun on spot improvements to improve bicyclist and pedestrian travel and enhance traffic flow along Route 17 in the Tappahannock area. Most lane closures will be scheduled during overnight hours due to heavy traffic volumes near the Rt. 17 and Rt. 360 intersection. Project completion is June 2021.

 

Gloucester County

 

Route 3/14 and Route 17 Business (Main Street) Intersection Improvement

Project to reduce driver delay and improve pedestrian access at intersection. Route 17 Business traffic now has dual left turn lanes and right turn lanes when turning onto Route 3/14. On Route 3/14, the traffic pattern approaching Route 17 Business has changes to allow for dual left turns southbound. One of the left turn lanes is a shared lane, and allows traffic to turn left, proceed straight across, or turn right. New sidewalks with handicapped-accessible ramps, crosswalks, and traffic signal equipment for pedestrian crossings will be installed. Project will be substantially complete in mid-Feb. 2021, with only paving remaining.

 

Pedestrian Improvements on Route 17 Southbound at Gloucester Point

Construction is underway on a project to build sidewalk and crosswalks along Route 17 southbound between Lafayette Heights Drive and Bellehaven Drive. Motorists should be alert for construction along the shoulder during daytime hours on weekdays and periodic single lane closures. Project estimated completion is in March 2021.

 

Pedestrian Improvements at Route 17 and Route 17 Business (Main Street) 

Construction is underway on a project to build sidewalk, crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, and new pedestrian crossing equipment at the northern intersection of Route 17 and Route 17 Business, and at Route 17 and McFadden Way. Motorists should be alert for construction during daytime hours on weekdays, as well as for periodic single lane closures and temporary traffic pattern changes. Project estimated completion is in March 2021.

 

Gloucester County and Middlesex County

 

Route 17 Southbound over Dragon Run

Route 17 southbound is reduced to a single lane for a bridge rehabilitation project over Dragon Run. The bridge is located at the county line between Gloucester County and Middlesex County. Project estimated completion is Aug. 2021.

 

Gloucester County and King and Queen County

 

Route 14 Bridge Replacement over Poropotank Creek

Route 14 is closed to through traffic at Poropotank Creek for a bridge replacement project. The bridge is located at the Gloucester County and King and Queen County line. Traffic is detoured to use Route 17 and Route 33 during the project. The road is scheduled to reopen in July 2021.

 

King William County

 

Route 30 and Route 360 Intersection Improvement

Construction is underway to improve the intersection of Route 30 and Route 360. The project will build dedicated right and left turn lanes and through lanes for eastbound Route 30, and will modify turn lanes on Route 360. A sidewalk will be built along Route 30 to allow pedestrians to cross Route 360. The project will be completed in June 2021.

 

Route 608 (Locust Hill Road)

A portion of Route 608 (Locust Hill Road) over Dorrell Creek is closed to allow crews to replace two large pipes. Locust Hill Road is closed to through traffic between Route 609 (Smokey Road) and Route 628 (Dorrell Road). Construction will be underway through early 2021. Signs are posted along the recommended detour route.

 

Route 662 (Sharon Road)

A portion of Sharon Road is closed for reconstruction following damage from Tropical Storm Michael. A project to reconstruct a slope and replace a culvert will be advertised to potential bidders in spring 2021.

 

Stafford County

 

Route 1 at Potomac Creek

Construction is underway to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge will be complete in July 2022.

 

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening

Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.

 

Town of West Point and New Kent County

 

Route 30/33 (Eltham Bridge)

Eastbound single lane closure on Eltham Bridge, with work zone barrier. Single lane closure is in place through June 2021. Crews are identifying locations where a future project will repair grout on the bridge. Read the news release.

 

Westmoreland County

 

Route 3 Passing Lanes

Construction began Jan. 4 on a project to build eastbound and westbound passing lanes over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3. When work is complete, Route 3 will become a four-lane undivided road from north of Route 639 (Winter Harbor Road) to east of Route 624 (Longwood Road), with new turn lanes at key intersections. The project will be complete in late Dec. 2021.
