I-95 Southbound
Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 133 (Route 17)
Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single lane closure on I-95 southbound between the two interchanges for construction activities for Improve 95 projects.
Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) to Exit 98 (Doswell)
Thursday, 9 p.m. – 3 a.m. Mobile double lane closures for pothole repair at various locations between mile markers 126 and 101, just north of exit 98 (Route 30/Doswell).
I-95 Northbound
Exit 130 (Route 3) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)
Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single northbound lane closure for construction activities for Improve 95 projects between these two interchanges.
Exit 133 (Route 17) to Exit 136 Centreport Parkway)
Monday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single northbound lane closure for construction activities for Improve 95 projects between these two interchanges.
Stafford County
Route 1 Southbound
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Single, left lane closure for Potomac Creek bridge replacement, between Potomac Creek Lane and Centreport Parkway intersection.
Route 17 Southbound
Tuesday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 7 a.m. single lane closure with full traffic stops between 11 p.m. – 3 a.m. Crews are placing bridge girders for a new I-95 overpass spanning Route 17. Route 17 southbound will be reduced to a single lane between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. Traffic will be stopped for up to 30-minute intervals between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. for motorist safety as crews place and secure girders.
Route 627 (Mountain View Road)
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single lane closure for guardrail installation near Centreport Parkway intersection.
Route 630 (Courthouse Road)
Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. One-way, alternating traffic near Lynhaven Lane. Crews will have the eastbound lane closed for tree removal in connection with a Stafford County project to improve Lynhaven Lane.
Old Courthouse Road
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Right turn lane and shoulder closures on Old Courthouse Road between Hospital Center Boulevard and Route 1. Improve 95 project construction.
Mobile Bridge Cleaning
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Crews will be pressure washing bridges at multiple locations in Stafford County to remove debris and residue treatment materials from snow removal. Expect brief delays for short-term lane closures at bridges on the following routes:

Falmouth Bridge
Sunday – Monday, 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. and Monday – Tuesday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile single lane closures overnight on Route 1 on Falmouth Bridge for pothole repairs. On Sunday night into early Monday, crews will have a lane closed on Route 1 southbound. On Monday night into Tuesday morning, a northbound lane will be closed.
Spotsylvania County
Route 2 (Tidewater Trail)
Saturday, March 27 – Sunday, March 28. Route 2 will be closed to all traffic at the railroad tracks, just south of Ruffin Drive, at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 27. Crews will be installing new railroad track under permit. The posted detour is Route 17 (Mills Drive) to Benchmark Road. If work is required beyond 10 a.m. Sunday, March 28, Route 2 will reopen, with crews directing one-way, alternating traffic.
Route 3 Eastbound
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Guardrail installation near the Brock Road intersection.
Route 17 (Mills Drive)
Sunday – Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 4 a.m. Traffic signals will be out of service at the intersection of Route 17, Germanna Point Drive and Hospital Boulevard during these overnight hours, and a flagging crew will direct traffic through the intersection with assistance from law enforcement. Crews are removing overhead signs from traffic signal mast arms. Work is in connection with Route 17 widening and I-95 overpass replacement project.
Route 601 (Lawyers Road)
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Mobile single lane closures between Bell Drive and the entrance to Lake Anna State Park for spot pavement repair. Crews are preparing for upcoming road resurfacing improvements.
Route 603 (Arcadia Road)
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Mobile single lane closures between the Spotsylvania and Caroline county line and Route 1 for spot pavement repair. Crews are preparing for upcoming road resurfacing improvements.

Bridge maintenance to repair bridge deck, bridge joints. Traffic will be directed by automated flagging assistance devices.

Fredericksburg District
Caroline County
Route 207 Southbound Bridge Replacement
Route 207 is reduced to a single northbound and southbound lane at the bridge over the Mattaponi River. Traffic is traveling in the northbound lanes while the southbound bridge is closed for a replacement project. The new southbound bridge is anticipated to open to traffic in Sept. 2021.
Route 677 (Camp Road) Detour
Route 677 (Camp Road) will be closed to through traffic between Route 694 (Courtney Road) and Route 693 (Herring Creek Road) at the bridge over Herring Creek beginning Monday, Nov. 30. Crews are replacing existing drainage pipes with a slightly larger box culvert. Motorists should follow signs along the posted detour route, which will be in place through April 2021.
Route 743 (Clifton Road) over South River
Construction began in December 2020 to replace a structurally deficient timber bridge on Clifton Road over the South River. The existing bridge is open during construction. The new bridge will be a concrete structure, and will allow heavier vehicles to cross. The new bridge is scheduled to open in Oct. 2021.
City of Fredericksburg
Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge
The Chatham Bridge is closed to traffic for an improvement project. Drivers should follow the posted detour signs directing traffic around the bridge closure. The bridge will reopen to traffic in October 2021, and all construction work will be complete by April 2022.
Essex County
Route 17 Corridor Improvements
Construction has begun on spot improvements to improve bicyclist and pedestrian travel and enhance traffic flow along Route 17 in the Tappahannock area. Most lane closures will be scheduled during overnight hours due to heavy traffic volumes near the Rt. 17 and Rt. 360 intersection. Project completion is June 2021.
Gloucester County
Route 3/14 and Route 17 Business (Main Street) Intersection Improvement
Project to reduce driver delay and improve pedestrian access at intersection. Route 17 Business traffic now has dual left turn lanes and right turn lanes when turning onto Route 3/14. On Route 3/14, the traffic pattern approaching Route 17 Business has changes to allow for dual left turns southbound. One of the left turn lanes is a shared lane, and allows traffic to turn left, proceed straight across, or turn right. New sidewalks with handicapped-accessible ramps, crosswalks, and traffic signal equipment for pedestrian crossings will be installed. Project is complete.
Pedestrian Improvements on Route 17 Southbound at Gloucester Point
Construction is underway on a project to build sidewalk and crosswalks along Route 17 southbound between Lafayette Heights Drive and Bellehaven Drive. Motorists should be alert for construction along the shoulder during daytime hours on weekdays and periodic single lane closures. Project is complete.
Pedestrian Improvements at Route 17 and Route 17 Business (Main Street)
Construction is underway on a project to build sidewalk, crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, and new pedestrian crossing equipment at the northern intersection of Route 17 and Route 17 Business, and at Route 17 and McFadden Way. Motorists should be alert for construction during daytime hours on weekdays, as well as for periodic single lane closures and temporary traffic pattern changes. Project is substantially complete, with pedestrian crossing signal equipment scheduled to be installed in summer 2021.
Gloucester County and Middlesex County
Route 17 Southbound over Dragon Run
Route 17 southbound is reduced to a single lane for a bridge rehabilitation project over Dragon Run. The bridge is located at the county line between Gloucester County and Middlesex County. Project estimated completion is Aug. 2021.
Gloucester County and King and Queen County
Route 14 Bridge Replacement over Poropotank Creek
Route 14 is closed to through traffic at Poropotank Creek for a bridge replacement project. The bridge is located at the Gloucester County and King and Queen County line. Traffic is detoured to use Route 17 and Route 33 during the project. The road is scheduled to reopen in July 2021.
King William County
Route 30 and Route 360 Intersection Improvement
Construction is underway to improve the intersection of Route 30 and Route 360. The project will build dedicated right and left turn lanes and through lanes for eastbound Route 30, and will modify turn lanes on Route 360. A sidewalk will be built along Route 30 to allow pedestrians to cross Route 360. The project will be completed in June 2021.
Route 608 (Locust Hill Road)
A portion of Route 608 (Locust Hill Road) over Dorrell Creek is closed to allow crews to replace two large pipes. Locust Hill Road is closed to through traffic between Route 609 (Smokey Road) and Route 628 (Dorrell Road). Construction will be underway through mid-April. Signs are posted along the recommended detour route.
Route 662 (Sharon Road)
A portion of Sharon Road is closed for reconstruction following damage from Tropical Storm Michael. A project to reconstruct a slope and replace a culvert will be advertised to potential bidders in spring 2021.
Stafford County
Route 1 at Potomac Creek
Construction is underway to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge will be complete in July 2022.
Spotsylvania County
Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening
Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.
Town of West Point and New Kent County
Route 30/33 (Eltham Bridge)
Eastbound single lane closure on Eltham Bridge, with work zone barrier. Single lane closure is in place through June 2021. Crews are identifying locations where a future project will repair grout on the bridge.
Westmoreland County
Route 3 Passing Lanes
Construction began Jan. 4 on a project to build eastbound and westbound passing lanes over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3. When work is complete, Route 3 will become a four-lane undivided road from north of Route 639 (Winter Harbor Road) to east of Route 624 (Longwood Road), with new turn lanes at key intersections. The project will be complete in late Dec. 2021.
